Santa Barbara City Council Approves Paseo Nuevo Redevelopment Proposal
The Chamber is proud to support the Paseo Nuevo redevelopment proposal approved in a 6-0 vote during this week’s Santa Barbara City Council meeting. We are excited to see Yardi Systems’ transformation of the former Macy’s building into the company’s corporate offices. This major private-sector investment brings hundreds of employees downtown daily, creates year-round foot traffic, and signals confidence in downtown Santa Barbara’s future.
By revitalizing long-vacant buildings through adaptive reuse, balancing downtown with a mix of housing and commercial activity, and providing significant donations to the local Housing Trust Fund and Downtown Parking Fund, the project is a clear win for the City and community members.
There will be a second reading of the redevelopment ordinance on June 30,
and construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, read more.
