Santa Ana College Representative, Luisa Ruiz guides students in  filling out the necessary paperwork to qualify for early entrance and priority registration at Santa Ana College. Luisa's efforts makes the case for Seniors at Santa Ana High School to  ensure their paperwork is submitted this year earlier than ever before. Although some students will be starting off at four year colleges and Universities, many of our students will be starting off at a two year higher education institution. The good news is that Santa Ana College offers ALL of our students full scholarships for books and Chrome book computers. Our Santa Ana College partners are serious in their efforts to ensure a community of higher education degrees in every household throughout the City of Santa Ana. Thank you Luisa for your dedication to our "Saints in the City."
During "Senior Push' this last week, students rotated from one location to the next, listening to various speakers about options beyond their senior year. Representatives from Irvine Valley College, Cal State Fullerton, UCI, Orange Coast College, and Santa Ana College were also on hand to provide the students valuable information to get them thinking about life after graduation. Our efforts to get our students to consider their options regarding careers and college will continue throughout the year. Thank you Marylou Carillo for organizing this event.
Girls' Volleyball Team Represents Santa Ana High School With Grace, Skill and Style
After sweeping the Orange Panthers three games out of five, Coach Lara Rear posed with her student-athletes. Assistant Principal, Suzanne Mulholland recognized that Coach Rear's girls were so talented and hard working that she insisted that they memorialize their great victory by taking selfies with her. Truly, these young lady "Saints" represented Santa Ana High School with grace, skill and style and I could not be prouder of them.
"SanArts" Conservatory & Fine Arts Students Preparing For
NJROTC Mural Presentation Ceremony - October 19
Ms. Judi Westing's " SanArts" Fine Arts students are putting the final  touches on the Mural Project they will be presenting this coming October 19th during a celebration with the Fine Arts Department and NJROTC. The students have been working earnestly to  finish the project with as much attention to detail as would a professional artist. The hard work that Judi Westing put into this project is both recognized and appreciated. Our students are lucky and fortunate to have both Judi Westing and Katrinka Sanborn.

During the "District" Wall of Fame Recognition Ceremony," held at the Valley Sports Complex, Manny Penaflorfootball,Track and Soccer Coach, was honored, along with others, for his contributions to both the district, and Santa Ana High School.
Manny is an exceptional human being and was a great role model for his young student-athletes, as an athlete, teacher, and COACH. Manny Penaflor was another Example of the Excellence that Existed at Santa Ana High School on a Daily Basis for the past 127 years...

SAUSD District "Wall of Fame" Recognition Ceremony Included Three Inductees from
Santa Ana High School
Santa Ana Unified inducted 5 alumni into the wall of fame Friday night. Of course, SAHS had the most inductees with three. One of the inductees is the current sportscaster for the Redskins, two played in the Rose Bowl for USC, another held the Bible for a president at inauguration, you get the point - Amazing accomplishments. Then there is Manny Penaflor. Though he also had some impressive accomplishments along with the others, Impressive, was the fact that he came to the US in the 4th grade, didn't speak English, and graduated in the top of his class before going on to college and coming back to the same school he graduated from to teach and coach for almost 40 years. Many of his family members, including Joe Penaflor, presently the head soccer coach at Santa Ana High School, was on had to witness his induction. Assistant Principal, Loren Lighthall, commented, "Interesting to think about how their lives have all been changed because of Manny's decisions and hard work -- A true "Hall of Fame" recipient.

This past week was filled with multiple opportunities for parents to partner with Santa Ana High School. The Mexican Consulate interacted with our parent leaders talking about immigration laws and various other topics that were interesting to our leaders.

Additionally, the first of several sessions (6 weeks) are coming to an end to the dismay of our participating parents. They thoroughly enjoyed the training and look forward to the next six week session. Parents will receive completion certificates this coming October 3rd in the Family Center at 9am and 6pm. Santa Ana High School Students Learn Financial Literacy
During After-School
Halo Program
After School "Halo Program" Directors, Jessica Ochoa and Eddie Rocha provide Santa Ana High School multiple opportunities to engage and learn that which they are excited to learn about. Financial Literacy is important to our students as evidenced by their requests last year during our school-wide and community Local Control Accountability Meetings (LCAP).
The following is important information for teachers, parents and students to access services offered by the After-School HALO Program:

1. Academic Assistance-The Tutoring Shop is an academic assistance program targeted to support academically under-performing students with a safe and optimal learning environment.  All students are welcome; no referral is needed for students to attend. However, we do have a referral system in place for all staff to have the opportunity to refer students to our program, who they feel would benefit from additional academic assistance. We are located at the library, Monday-Friday from 7:00-8:00AM and dismissal to 6:00PM.

ACCESS:

How does the referral system work? The HALOs Program has a Student Referral Form that is now PDF "fillable" and can be sent to us electronically. Please expect the updated form via email by early this week.  This form is to be filled out by a teacher, counselor or administrator and emailed to Jessica Ochoa at jessica.ochoa@sausd.us. She will then compile an on-going running record of all students who have been referred to the program throughout the year, in addition to keeping a running record of all attending referred students. We will track their attendance, the assignments they worked on and how long they spent at the Tutoring Shop. Everyone will have access to view the participation of your referred student/s through our live Google Docs excel document. Please let us know if you need access.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us via email: Jessica.ochoa@sausd.us  and Eduardo.Rocha@sausd.us
