THIS WEEK AT ST. ROSE SCHOOL
Dear St. Rose School Families:
It has been a week of cooperation, competition and celebration at St. Rose School. I am happy to report that we excelled in all three categories.
Due to a water issue in the Preschool earlier this week, our littlest learners re-located to the Main School for class on Tuesday and thanks to the capable leadership of their teachers, the cooperation of parents and the warm welcome of staff and students the day went smoothly. I am grateful for the tireless efforts of all who worked on the water issue and brought it to a positive resolution in less than 24 hours. We are blessed to have so many good people on our side.
Following months of preparation, our Mock Trial team travelled to the Kingswood School in Oxford to compete. Our students performed well and portrayed the various characters in the trial with aplomb. My most sincere thanks goes to Attorney Ed Brady and Attorney Ed Walsh, both alumni parents who spend countless hours teaching our students key aspects of the law and coaching them in trial techniques. And a special acknowledgement to Ms. Trish Vertucci, our Middle School ELA Teacher who has a a background working in law and is the Mock Trial Coordinator, for her dedication to this inspiring enrichment program. Well done everyone! Parents, please encourage your Middle School students to consider participating in Mock Trial, it is an experience that has life long applications.
Yesterday our 8th graders celebrated 100 Days until graduation. It was a festive occasion with themed apparel, decorated lockers, tasty meals/treats and special time with their Second grade buddies. Some members of the Class of 2019 started their journey here at St. Rose in Preschool, others joined along the way. Both the students and their families have formed a strong bond through the years that is beautiful to witness. As they move toward the next chapter of their lives, we share in their journey and wish them many blessings, reminding them that St. Rose School will always be their home.
Last night our Girls Basketball team played their final home game and honored 8th graders Julia Cirone and Sofia Velez. In their tributes, fellow teammates praised both girls for being role models, big sisters and exemplary people both on and off the court. Hearing that certainly makes me proud. I applaud these girls for their sportsmanship and their fellowship. There is no doubt that they will be an asset to any high school they choose. Kudos, as well, to their parents who have clearly done an excellent job raising such fine citizens.
Please join me in congratulating Seventh grader Jonathan Voskov on his recent Baptism in to the Catholic Church. Sister Thaddeus spent the past several months preparing Jonathan for his sacrament and last weekend Monsignor celebrated his Baptismal mass in the Gathering Hall. Welcome Jonathan, may God bless you always.
I hope that you have had the chance to meet Officer Perez, who started in his official role as School Security Officer this week. He comes to us after 33 years of service in the Bridgeport police department with a genuine interest in serving and protecting our school. Officer Perez attended Catholic school in Bridgeport and is happy to be a part of the St. Rose School community. He is impressed by the respectful students, staff and parents he has encountered so far and looks forward to meeting more members of our school family in the days ahead.
Registration for the 2019-2020 school year is still open. I encourage you to save your child's spot in next year's class as soon as possible. We have identified at least three classes with waiting lists so timing is key. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Karen Coppola, our Admissions Director, firstname.lastname@example.org or 203-426-5102 ext. 13. I am also available to meet with you. Please contact Mrs. Wong to make those arrangements, email@example.com.
We will be hosting a Preschool and Kindergarten Open House on March 20th, 9:00-11:00 a.m. and a Kindergarten Readiness Session on March 21st. at 6:00 p.m. Please spread the word to your friends, neighbors and family. Word of mouth is our most powerful tool. Thank you.

Music awaits you this weekend!!
The Danbury Community Orchestra will present a free concert at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at WestConn tomorrow (Saturday, March 2), at 7:30 pm. IMPORTANT NEWS FOR PARENTS!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to make you aware of a challenge, called the “Momo Challenge”, which you might have either seen or heard about online. The “Momo Challenge” allegedly encourages viewers (mainly children) to perform a number of dangerous tasks. The links below provide more detailed information about the “Momo Challenge,” and we encourage you to have a discussion about this information, particularly with older children.
We will continue to have conversations with students about general internet safety and digital citizenship. Please use this opportunity to talk with your children about internet safety as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our Dean of Student Life, Mrs. Bokuniewicz,
; or me, principal@srles.

Night at the Museum for Mothers and Sons.
We are gearing up in earnest to launch our many Spring events and fundraisers...despite Mother Nature's resistance to snow-less ground.
A big thank you to Lisa Jackson for taking over the track program from Jane Brady (and a big thank you to Jane for running it for our kids!) You may have noticed on Facebook (SRS Parents) that we are in need of volunteers/helpers to run this program, especially during the week. If you are interested and have the time, please let us know via "
Also note that we are having a "Mom's March Madness" kick off event for the raffle at Marketplace, 7pm on March 14. Please join us and help launch the tuition raffle in a big way. We are very excited about this new fundraising initiative and know that with your help, we'll make our goal in record time.
The winner of the tuition raffle with be announced at our HSA Year End Social, which is scheduled for May 31 at The Villa Restaurant right here in Newtown. This is an adult-only event, so please book your sitter now to ensure you're able to attend this fun evening full of camaraderie, great food and drink.
Of course, just the week prior, we will have our St. Rose Golf Classic, on May 22nd at 11am. This has traditionally been our biggest fundraiser and we are looking forward to your participation in this event. Did you know...the dinner after the golf tournament is open to all St. Rose families, whether you played or not? What a great way to celebrate the end of a day in the sun, catching up with your St. Rose friends. For more details, please check out the website "
Add to this our events that are coming up soon...our International Dinner, the Mother/Son Night at the (Everwonder) Museum scheduled for Thursday, March 28 at 5pm. and our Father/Daughter dance scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at 5pm...and you'll see why we're so excited to welcome Spring!
Have a great weekend,
Your HSA Board
SCRIP GROCERY PROGRAM
Everyone needs to eat and by purchasing gift cards to local grocery stores to do your food shopping you can make a HUGE difference.
Here’s the math . . .
Most stores offer an average 5% rebate to our HSA, so based on one family:
$400/month (that’s $100 a week!) x 12 months = $4800
That’s a $240 rebate per year for ONE FAMILY!
With all 180 families participating . . .
$240 x 180 = $43,200!!!!!
Can you IMAGINE what we could do with an extra $43,200 that is not costing anyone anything additionally?
We are looking to make this number a reality. We have done this by creating a monthly grocery program that is so user friendly everyone would be happy to use it!
We will fulfill the order on the 1st and/or 15th of the month.
We will email you on the 7th and 21st (bi-weekly) or 21st (monthly) of the month asking if you’d like your standing order and reminding you to please send in the check.
This is not a ‘binding’ program- we realize some months fluctuate. You are not obligated to use the service every month though it is greatly encouraged and appreciated!
We are willing and able to do all the legwork to make this $43k a reality- all we ask of you is to fill out the form, send the check and keep replying ‘yes!’
Who is willing to take the plunge and be one of the first members of our Scrip Grocery Program?
Please contact The SRS Scrip Team at
with questions. We are here to help!
Let’s do this SRS parents! #onourwayto43k
