THIS WEEK AT ST. ROSE SCHOOL
Dear St. Rose School Families:

Another productive week of school is in the books. The students say it all with their happy greetings and excited engagement in the classroom. Our community spirit is strong as evidenced by the tremendous turnout at the Castle Hill Farm Bonfire last Friday night. My most sincere thanks to our HSA Board for making this a memorable night for our school family and to all of you who have chosen St. Rose School for the education of your children -- you can be assured of our commitment to nurturing their minds and hearts on a daily basis.

Our High School Night for Grades 6-8 was very well attended. Representatives from high schools near and far -- many of them our St. Rose School alumni -- shared important information with our upper graders to help them begin making the decisions and taking the actions that are essential to transitioning from Middle school to High school. We encourage your children to reach out to these contacts with questions and, when appropriate, to schedule shadow days (see below for details about these visits). Please do not hesitate to ask our teachers and staff here for assistance in the high school application process. We know that God has just the right high school in mind for every one of our students and pray his blessings on you during this time.

I am thrilled to share some exciting news -- we have secured a commitment from the Diocese to have a thorough assessment conducted of both the main school and preschool building technology infrastructure to determine upgrading needs for the following: Wifi; PA system; Surveillance system: and Access controls for all doors. This assessment will take place in the coming weeks and once a determination is made the necessary work will be scheduled. At the end of this process our school will be equipped with cutting edge, state of the art technology that will enable us to add many innovations to our curriculum. I will keep you posted as the details unfold.

The sound of music filled our hall on Thursday as students were introduced to the Paul Effman Music Band program. The assembly was informative and your children were very engaged as the four visiting musicians played their instruments and provided a lesson about each. The opportunity to learn an instrument is an exciting one and we hope those students who have expressed an interest will take advantage of this exciting new program. Details are below.

We are delighted to welcome the Komninakas family back to St. Rose School. Evie, in 7th grade, and Kierce, in 2nd grade began this past Monday and were greeted warmly by their teachers and friends. Their older sister Irena graduated from SRS last year and is now a Freshman at the Hopkins school. It's always a special feeling when our students return.

Please help us spread the word about the first OPEN HOUSE of the year which will be held on Sunday, October 14, 12:30-2:30 PM. Questions can be directed to [email protected].

We hope to see EVERYONE at our 60th Anniversary celebration Saturday October 6th. This begins with a mass of Thanksgiving which we hope you will attend and is followed by an Oktoberfest event Noon-4:00PM on the field. It's exciting to be a part of a 60 year old tradition and a school that is poised for a bright future. Please help us fill the church and pack the field. RSVP to [email protected].

Next Thursday (9/27) and Friday (9/28) I will be attending an important professional development and training seminar for Principals in Lakeville, CT. In my absence Mrs. Bokuniewicz will be in charge of the school.

Have a relaxing weekend!

God bless,

Mr. Bardhyl Gjoka

STUDENT LIFE UPDATE by MRS. B

Where Do We Go From Here?

While we are in still in the beginning weeks of school our 7th and 8th graders are already thinking about what comes next in their educational journey. On Tuesday evening we hosted our annual High School Night and welcomed many Catholic, private, and public high schools to share with our families, what is ahead in the next few years for our students. We want to thank all the schools who participated and we were especially excited to see so many of our St. Rose alumni sharing their experiences as high school students and speaking on behalf of their schools. If you were unable to attend, please contact me and I will connect you with the admissions teams at the schools of your choice. Information about open houses, entrance exams and other activities being sponsored by the high schools will be posted by the 7th and 8th grade lockers. We are proud and happy to report that many of our alumni are part of extracurricular programs that encourage leadership in the community and provide for an enriched academic experience beyond the classroom. We have invited them back to speak with our middle schoolers and look forward to their visits in the upcoming months!
