IT'S SUPPOSED TO HURT!
No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening- it is painful! But afterwards there will be a quiet harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way (Hebrews 12:11, NLT)
"Does it have to be so harsh?" my son asked my husband one day as he administered the discipline he felt my son needed after he made a decision against our parental wishes. Yes," my husband replied, " so that you'll feel enough pain to ensure it won't happen again."
God also loves us so much that he will periodically administer discipline in our lives. But the apostle Paul assures us that even though the discipline is painful while it is happening, it's always designed to help us grow and mature into the people God wants us to be.
Like our heavenly father, the discipline we administer as mothers, in whatever form we determine is
appropriate
, will sometimes come across as harsh to our children. But we must help them understand that although painful at the moment, the
discipline
we give them
is also designed to help them grow and mature into the people we desire them to be.
So if you hear your children complaining today that your discipline is painful, just tell them - "It's supposed to hurt!"

Mother's prayer: Father, even when the discipline is painful for my children, help me to still discipline them. Amen.
