Minister's Musings

Dear Friends,

It's March!!! Woo-hoo!!! When I was in the US, I always felt like March was a time to take a deep breath because spring was here. Even the CTV news meteorologist says this Sunday marks meteorological Spring, even though our weather doesn't know it. I know, I know… In SW Ontario it's more like April 1 when we can breathe easy. March can still be snowy and cold. When I was in Winnipeg last year, I was told you really can't count it as Spring until MAY 15!! (Yes, you read that right.) 

I don’t care what anyone says, I’m doing my happy dance in March, because even when we do get snow and cold, we know it's the last gasp of winter. If we just hold on a bit longer, it will end. Grass will green up, flowers and trees will bud, and allergy medicine will abound. The trick to it is perspective, isn’t it? This was a rough winter. More snow than we have had since moving to London. And yet, even this has its season. 

It's like that with all of life. It's a season. If we just hold on, the dark, barren moments in life will give way to new life. While grief may not go away, it does become more manageable. Even an illness that may threaten our life will eventually give way to a new life with God and those we love in the Heavenly realm. Our faith reminds us that no matter what life brings our way, God’s love and faithfulness are greater still. The great preacher (now of blessed memory) Anthony Campolo famously preached a sermon that proclaimed “It may be Friday now….but Sunday’s a’comin’!” There is no winter that will not give way to eventual spring. There is no Good Friday that is not followed by Easter Sunday, and there is no fear life can bring, that God’s love is not greater still! 

So do your happy dance…it’s Spring!!!

It really is cold out! The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY), is a fundraiser for local charities to support people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. Everyone is welcome to join the Wesley-Knox Spirit Movers team for the walk on Sat. Feb. 28 -

send off is at 5 pm with a 2 Km and 5 Km route.
