GET INVOLVED!

Selflessly Serving

"Do nothing from selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others."

(Philippians 2:3-4)

As I near the one-year mark of stepping into leadership at Living Stones, I’ve come to appreciate many aspects of the role. One of the greatest joys has been seeing the bigger picture—the entire operation in action. It's something that most of our volunteers and neighbors don’t often get to experience.

I’ve said it many times and will continue to say it: Living Stones wouldn’t be what it is without the dedication and love of our volunteers. As I watch everything come together, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the skills, leadership, and passion that each volunteer brings to this organization and our community. This month, I want to highlight two incredible acts of kindness, both led by volunteers.

First, if you haven’t seen our free clothing boutique, I highly recommend checking it out. It’s a highly utilized space, curated with care. One of our dedicated volunteers, who oversees managing and stocking the boutique, wanted to go a step further to support our neighbors. She proposed collecting hygiene items to help meet the needs of some in our community, and she personally took on the task. Thanks to the generosity of donations from other volunteers and members of North Way Christian Community Church, she was able to launch a health and beauty section in the boutique, which has quickly become a beloved addition.

The second highlight from this past month involves three volunteers who turned a simple day of friendship and wildflower picking into a beautiful way to surprise and bless our neighbors. They planned a trip to a local farm, covering the cost of picking the wildflowers themselves. After picking the flowers, they arranged them in vases and added heartfelt cards of encouragement. These vases became the centerpieces at one of our Sunday dinners, and by the end of the evening, one lucky neighbor got to take the entire arrangement home.

I am continually inspired by the passion and love our volunteers show for our neighbors. It's thoughtful acts like these that remind me what it means to serve selflessly. As I witness these acts of love from our volunteers each week, I’m reminded of a quote by Jane Goodall that deeply resonates with me: "What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."

Our annual Fundraiser is Saturday, September 21. Get tickets or become a sponsor before September 7!

Living Stones fosters the cultivation of relationships with neighbors who join us for meals. As relationships develop and deepen, Living Stones volunteers come alongside those individuals and families to assist them in navigating the challenges in their lives and encourage them to find hope in Christ as they learn to trust Him.
