Can You Help Us?

We are proud to call Linwood Place the home of 15 veterans from all ranks of military service. The 4' X 6' flag on the lighted pole in front of our commons is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. We are seeking a donation to replace our flag. Please contact our Executive Director Lynn Ann Clausing Rusch  (click here to email) if you can help.
Seeking Bids for Laundry/Restroom Renovation

Our staff and property committee have been working diligently to finalize a request for bids to move our laundry area from the basement to an area adjacent to Linwood Commons. We expect the bid package to be ready for viewing on Friday, July 9 with a response date of Friday, July 31. If you or someone you know are interested in bidding on this project, please contact Executive Director Lynn Ann Clausing Rusch  (click here to email Lynn Ann) to receive a bid package.

This move will allow tenants to do their laundry in a well lit, accessible area and to utilize our Commons as a waiting area where they can socialize and/or take advantage of our extensive library.

This project has the support of Mary Beth Nienhaus, who has generously supported this renovation with a matching donation. We are still seeking $7,500 in donations in order to receive the full match from Mary Beth.
First English Church Summer Ministry Interns Support Our Tenants In A Unique Partnership During COVID-19

First English Lutheran Church supports the Summer Intern Ministry for young adults ages 18-25. The vision of this ministry is to provide opportunities for emerging men and women to gain a deeper understanding of service in the community and vocation in the church.

In past years, the interns have been involved with many social activities in Linwood Commons. Our tenants looked forward to the weekly visits of the interns. Due to COVID-19 and the need to social distance, we have had to become creative in how our tenants can build relationships and connect with this amazing group of young people.

Our tenants were polled in June, asking them if they were interested in having an intern buddy connect with them during a weekly telephone call. Each intern hopes to learn more about their tenant buddy during these conversations and will prepare a written story about what they have learned. Each tenant will receive their story. It is our hope that the tenants will share their story with family and friends. With tenant permission, we would love to share the stories of our tenants (written by their buddy intern) so we can all learn more about the interesting lives of the people who reside at Linwood Place.
Reading Gives Us A Place To Go When We Have To Stay Where We Are

Due to COVID-19 there are no social activities being held in Linwood Commons. This has created a sense of isolation and loneliness that impacts both the mental and physical well being of our tenants. Our community of friends have been very generous with donations of books of all kinds. We have added a full bookshelf of hardcover books to our library collection and our tenants have been rotating the puzzles and paperback donations. There is a flurry of excitement whenever donations arrive. Thank you to all who donated.
Welcome to Our Staff Member Gloria Gillis

Gloria is using her talent of organizing as she creates order of our records and files.
Check Out Our Landscape Makeover!
A generous donation from Eugene & Sue Doell (Sue is our Board Chairperson) designated for landscape mulch and labor provided by Property Committee member Matt Coenen recently gave our grounds a much needed face lift. Thirty (30) yards of mulch spruced up our beds, the lower limbs on our trees were trimmed and apartment patio railings were painted.
First English Interns spent a Friday morning sprucing up our entrances by cleaning up our flower beds and planting flowers. Volunteer Jonathon Minnis (son of our Board Vice Chairperson, Karen Roherty) has returned to Fox Valley Lutheran Homes this summer and is volunteering his time and talents making sure our grass is clipped. Thanks to all!
