We are pleased to share with you The Children's Museum of Easton's Mind Body Soul Summer activities! We hope these activities help you all to nourish your minds and bodies and continue bringing joy to your family and community.

Activity for the Mind: Nature Scavenger Hunt for Colors
Incorporating time in nature provides a wonderful learning opportunity for children to care for and appreciate mother nature and it’s many beauties. A great way to celebrate the many colorful creations found in nature is to do a colored scavenger hunt!

Materials:   An empty egg carton, basket or bag (if you plan to collect), a safe place outdoors to explore, markers/crayons are optional

Instructions:
  1. For our instructions, we will use an empty egg carton.
  2. Designate an egg holder(where an egg sits in the carton) for each color in the rainbow. Coloring the space with a crayon or marker is helpful.
  3. Go on a family nature walk.Try to find something from nature that matches each color in your carton. For example, a red leaf on the ground can be put in the red holder, a piece of grass can go in the green holder, etc.

Take it a little further: Want to make this more challenging for older children? Incorporate their love for technology for a win-win! For example, they can research each natural item before adding it to the colored holder. Or encourage them to designate each color holder for a designated nature item before going on the hunt!

Activity for the Body: Family Bike Ride Adventures
Learning to ride a bike is a huge milestone and accomplishment children love to celebrate! But not everyone is ready to coast on their own. Thankfully, there are adaptations that can be made to bikes, incorporating non-riders into a family bike trip like training wheels and bike trailers for even the youngest of children.
Most communities in Massachusetts include family-friendly bike trails and great spots for little ones to sharpen their bike-riding skills. Here are some suggestions shared by Mommypoppins.com:
The  Nashua River Rail Trail  offers 11 miles to bike with some great views. The 10-foot-wide paved trail mostly follows the lines of the river and passes through the towns of Ayer, Groton, Pepperell, and Dunstable. The trail is built along the site of former railroad tracks that ran between Worcester and Nashua. Along the route, you’ll see wetlands, ponds, woods, swamps, and farms, as well as plenty of resting stops.

The  Minuteman Bikeway  runs from the end of the Red Line subway in Cambridge to picturesque, small-town Bedford. It’s also 11 miles long, but is 12 feet wide (also paved). It runs through Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford. You can gain access to the bikeway at several locations, but the end points are Alewife Station in Cambridge and Depot Park in Bedford.

Breakheart Reservation  in Saugus has more than two dozen trails on its 700-plus acres. The five-mile paved loop road goes around the park and offers a wonderful and safe place for kids to ride their bikes. (At one point, the roads were open to cars, but only rangers can use cars now.) There are plenty of places for a picnic and a great playground by the lake.

Borderland State Park  in North Easton is a 1,800-acre recreational wonderland, with opportunities to bike on extensive trails. The three-mile pond loop is perfect for family biking. The property was once a country estate in the 1900s and gets its name from its location straddling the towns of Sharon and Easton.

Wompatuck State Park  in Hingham is a fantastic place to take kids bike riding. Twelve miles of paved bicycle trails, in addition to miles of wooded bridle paths and hiking trails, offer lots of riding options. Kids will love to visit the Mount Blue Spring, a source of fresh drinking water where you can fill up your water containers for free.

Activity for the Soul: Sidewalk Masterpieces
We all love receiving appreciation and love but it also feels wonderful being the one giving the love and appreciation! And what better way to do this then having children help! As a family, create sidewalk art or words of positive messages to others in your neighborhood.

Materials: Chalk, a paved sidewalk in your neighborhood or another approved location.

Instructions: As a family, create a chalk art masterpiece with drawings and/or words for others to read and feel loved.
Need some suggestions? Think of an object that shouts positivity and love. A heart, rainbow, or peace symbol would be beautiful to share with community members.

Take it a little further: Create a positivity route in your neighborhood that encourages walkers and runners to look for more of your artwork. For example, add something to your drawing like “Turn left onto Elm Street to see another beautiful picture.”
Encourage others to add to your artwork. Begin a community artwork project by starting a drawing and leaving chalk for others to add to it! Keep your fingers crossed for no summer showers and be amazed at the ideas others have to add to your masterpiece!
