It’s that time of year again — flu season!

Flu season is just around the corner.  We will host a flu clinic for students on October 16th & 18th.  This year we will also be offering Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) for those students in grades 6th and 7th. Forms will be sent home with 4K-8th grade students on Monday, September 23rd and can be found in the office for High School students.  They need to be returned by Friday, October 11th. Be sure to sign up if you would like your child to receive a free flu shot.  If you have any questions, please contact the office at 715-735-1500.

Public Health will be at Marinette Primary and Middle Schools on Wednesday, October 16th and at Marinette Intermediate and High Schools on Friday, October 18th to administer free vaccinations to students.

The best way to prevent flu and its potentially serious complications is by getting an annual flu vaccine. Even when flu vaccination does not prevent illness entirely, it has been shown in several studies to reduce severity of illness in people who get vaccinated but still get sick.

CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get a seasonal flu vaccine each year. Keep in mind that vaccination is especially important for certain people who are at higher risk of developing serious flu complications or who are in close contact with people at higher risk. This includes children at higher risk of developing serious complications from flu illness, and adults who are close contacts of those children.

Flu vaccines are updated each season to protect against the four influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. This season’s flu vaccine has been updated from last season. More information is available on this season’s flu vaccine composition.

AND NOW A WORD FROM:

MR. DRAHEIM, Assistant Principal:

Dear MHS Families!

Greetings from Marinette High School! We are a month into the school year and things have been going very well!  A few reminders for families: please remember to check Canvas and Skyward once a week to keep up with your student’s progress in school.  Doing this will help ensure your student stays up to day in their classes and you can check their progress.  If you have any questions about a class, please remember to call or email the teachers directly.

Homecoming week went very well and the DJ from the dance said it was the best behaved of any dance he can remember.  We have great students!!  Also, our first and only Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on October 30th from 4 pm - 7 pm.  There are no sign ups so you can come anytime that works for you.  If a teacher is not able to be there, s/he will have a sign up sheet you can fill out and they will reach out to you.

On a positive note, we will be celebrating our perfect attendance students on Wednesday, October 2 for those students who earned perfect attendance for the month of September.  We have 103 students who were here everyday and they earned a slice of pizza as a reward.  We will be doing this every month of the school year with a different reward so encourage your student to get to school everyday.  If they are not eligible for one month, they can be eligible for the following month.

Finally, if you have a student who drives to school, please remind them they need to park in the student parking stalls, not the staff parking stalls.  This last summer, the parking lots have been resurfaced so the students will park in the yellow stalls and the staff will have blue stalls so there should not be any confusion on where to park.  Remember, students parking in our lot is a privilege, not a right.  The school year will go by very quickly and before we know it, graduation will be upon us and the end of the school year!  Let’s keep up the good work!

Go Marines!

Sincerely,

Matt Draheim

Mr. Linssen, Principal:

Dear MHS Parents and Students,

As we step into October, we want to take a moment to reflect on the exciting and eventful month of September. Our students have settled into their routines, and the school year is officially in full swing. We are proud of how enthusiastically and dedicatedly they have embraced the start of the year.

Looking Back at September:

**Club and Activity Fair**

September saw the launch of our  Club and Activity Fair, where students had the opportunity to explore various extracurricular activities. We were thrilled to see so many students sign up for clubs, teams, and other activities that will help them grow socially and academically.

**Positive Start to Academics**

The first few weeks have been focused on helping students get back into academic habits. Teachers are working closely with students to ensure they have the tools they need to be successful. If you notice your child needing additional support, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teachers or our guidance counselors.

**Spirit Week/Homecoming**

Although Spirit Week and Homecoming were a bit earlier than normal, they were a great success. We had a full week of festivities planned, which included themed dress-up days, Ironman volleyball/Powderpuff football tournaments, a pep rally, and the Homecoming game itself, with the Homecoming Dance culminating the week. Thank you to the MHS Student Senate for the hard work and organization in making the week memorable for all.

Congratulations to the NEC Conference Champion Girls Golf Team!!! Way to take home the Gold!!

Looking Ahead to October:

**Pre ACT Testing (October 1st)**

Freshmen, Sophomores and juniors will be taking the Pre ACT on Tuesday, October 1st. This is an important test that helps students prepare and get exposure to ACT testing which is a part of the State assessment system.  We have felt that giving students exposure and practice with the test is one of many things we can do to prepare them for those spring test dates. As school staff, we also receive impactful data from the results of the Pre ACT that allow for us to make impactful decisions about what we can do to improve outcomes for all students. More specific information about the schedule for October 1st will be distributed separately from this newsletter.

**Parent-Teacher Conferences**

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for the night of October 30th from 4:00 to 7:00. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and address any concerns you might have. We look forward to seeing you there.

**Fall Sports Update**

Our fall sports teams are off to a fantastic start! Whether on the football or soccer fields, cross-country or golf course, tennis or volleyball court, our student-athletes are giving their all. Be sure to come out and support our teams at their upcoming games and meets. As the fall season is quickly passing by, best of luck to all of our student-athletes as we approach the post-season. Go Marines!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s make October a month filled with learning, growth, and plenty of school spirit!

Warm Regards,

Steve Linssen

Principal
