June 2025

For 25 years, Art with a Heart has enriched lives, beautified communities, bridged divides, and shaped future leaders with empowering arts engagement throughout Baltimore. At Art with a Heart, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity for creative self-expression and artistic beauty.

Through your generosity, Art with a Heart will continue to transform lives, uplift voices, empower youth, and give purpose to idle hands, all through the power of art. Our fiscal year ends on June 30th—this is the last day to contribute to this year’s fundraising goal. If you haven’t made your gift, now is the moment! Make a gift today at the link below.

Programming

June was a month overflowing with artistry, celebration, and meaningful connections, as Art with a Heart's school-year programming came to a close. From colorful end-of-year art showcases to student award ceremonies, our classrooms were filled with creativity and joy.

As we look ahead to summer, we are excited to bring dynamic art experiences to hundreds of children, youth and adults in partnership with over 40 community organizations. From arts integration and nature-inspired programs to hands-on STEAM learning, we can’t wait to share the power of creativity with artists of all ages.

Community Art and Service

The Community Art and Service team has been engaging community members in the creation of large mosaic projects and several painted murals. A highlight this month was a collaboration with over 200 volunteers from the Baltimore Ravens and the Heart of America organizations to beautify two large shipping containers and two outdoor walls of Green Street Academy. This summer, Art with a Heart staff and volunteers will be preparing for two large-scale, multi-media murals, one with University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and the second with Richcroft.. Stay tuned!

Special Projects

Art with a Heart recently spearheaded two special projects at local elementary schools, showcasing the creativity of young students. At Pimlico Elementary/Middle School, workshops engaged 3rd and 4th graders who created vibrant watercolor paintings titled "Gratitude Gardens," each depicting their favorite things along with the individuals they appreciate most. These heartfelt artworks now adorn the hallways of Sinai Hospital. Meanwhile, students from all grades at Waterloo Elementary dove into the world of ceramics, sculpting, and glazing native pollinators like Black-Eyed Susans and Purple Asters. These pieces, crafted by 644 enthusiastic students, now form part of a stunning mixed-media mural at the school that celebrates nature and the ingenuity of the school's young artists.

HeARTworks/HeARTwares

We are thrilled to announce that Art with a Heart received the “Answers the Call” award from Thread for the organization's commitment to supporting youth and fostering meaningful engagement. Also this month, the HeARTworks program wrapped up the season with the final Workforce Wednesday, which included our talented apprentices sharing reflections and writing letters of encouragement to future participants. And, lastly, the HeARTwares team engaged the community with a hands-on mosaic project during Hampden Highlights Festival!

The Art of Leadership

June was an exciting month for the Art of Leadership! Cohort 10 commemorated the completion of their capstone project - 33 mosaic stepping stones they installed in a garden at Parks & People. The stepping stones symbolize progress, purpose, and the collective steps we take toward building stronger, more connected communities. Cohort 10 also celebrated their graduation on June 22nd, with heartfelt speeches from students and alumni reflecting on their growth and experiences. Looking ahead, we are thrilled to welcome 24 students in August to launch Cohort 11!

Impressionists

Each fourth Thursday of the month, Art with a Heart’s young professionals group, The Impressionists, gathers at the main office in Mill No.1 to help with many tasks from preparing materials for classes to working on community art projects. No art expertise or long-term commitment needed! And the beauty of the Impressionists is this: showing up, pitching in for two hours and being a part of something special—alongside great people.

The next scheduled Thursday meet-ups, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm, are as follows:

  • August 28
  • September 25
  • October 23

Light refreshments are provided. Feel free to bring a friend, we’d love to have you! For more information, please email Amy Langrehr at Art with a Heart.
