Voices of our Time
Over the past 26 years, the Studs Terkel Community Media Awards (CMA) have honored over 90 journalists whose work is driven by service and connection to their communities. We’re starting a new series on our blog called Voices of Our Time , featuring past Terkel winners.

Panelists included Louise Kiernan , ProPublica; Jim Kirk,  Crain's Chicago Business; CCMRP Taskforce Member Jackie Serrato,  South Side Weekly; Shamus Toomey,  Block Club Chicago ; and Tiffany Walden,  The TriiBE
Sunday, February 23rd we attended the Chicago Journalism Town Hall hosted by Ken Davis and Linda Paul. We listened to some of the city's leading journalists, editors, publishers and innovators wrestle with the industry's biggest questions.
Breaking through the crowd
Professional Women in Advocacy (PWIA) Chicago and McGuire Woods Consulting invited our President and Executive Director Jhmira Alexander to join political consultants Joanna Klonsky and Alexandra Sims for a panel discussion moderated by Chicago Sun Times columnist Laura Washington (CMA, 1999) on communicating effectively during the 2020 election cycle.
Illinois Census 2020 GOTC Convening 
Wednesday, February 12th, we attended the Illinois Census 2020 GOTC Convening hosted by Forefront. We heard from Dr. Jeanine Abrams McLean, Vice President of Fair Count (center left), and Ms. Marilyn A. Sanders, U.S. Census Bureau Regional Director (center right).
Peer Plus: Community Engagement with the Community in Mind
On Thursday, February 20th we attended "Community Engagement with the Community in Mind: A conversation about the facts, figures and cultural diversity in oncology" at Project H.O.O.D. The event was organized by CCMRP Task Force member Phyllis Rodgers and her team at Peer Plus Education and Training Advocates.

Thursday, February 20th, we were fortunate to learn more about the  Lumina Foundation, as we explore our narrative change work. The event featured Danette Howard, Ph.D, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer (second from left) in conversation with Natalie Moore (CMA Winner, 2010) about Lumina’s approach to education reform.
