Message from Principal Fassl

Hello Winnequah Families,

It’s so hard to believe we are already into March. As we look ahead to this month, we are looking forward to having you all in the building for Parent/Teacher conferences. We value the partnerships between home and school so much and are ready to share progress about your child with you. We have finished up our winter district assessments of iReady and Fastbridge and those results will be shared soon if they haven’t already.

There are many fun events planned for March, including district wide Strings Fest for our 4th and 5th graders, Rock Your Socks Day on March 21, and Hootie Huddle activities on Friday, March 15. Our 3rd and 4th graders will be having their vocal music concerts this month. We are also excited to be partnering with the Monona Public Library and WFSO to be bringing the musical group, Handphibians, to Winnequah for a performance before Spring Break. And finally, we have all started to read our All School Read, Odder, in our homerooms. All this fun is sure to make another month go quickly as we approach Spring Break at the end of the month.

We are looking forward to warmer days ahead to move some of our fun to outdoor activities as well.

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break!!

In Appreciation,

Angie Fassl

Hootie Huddle

Our February Hootie Huddle was all about Kindness and Positivity!

Each person shared something positive about themselves and we listened to a read-aloud.

We also created kindness notes that are in folders around the school so that learners can grab one when they need some encouragement!

All School Read

The All School read is back again this year!

This is such a fun event that builds community and brings so much excitement with every classroom reading the same book. This year our book is Odder by Katherine Applegate. We kicked it off with Hootie delivering the surprise book to each classroom. Along with reading the book, we have a new assortment of otter books in the library, a Meet Odder bulletin board, and a Who's taller? display in the library. We are excited to read this book together and learn more about the role the sea otter plays as a keystone species in its ecosystem!

Superintendent Search

The search for MGSD's next Superintendent continues!

Make sure to check out the website to stay up-to-date on the process.

March Safety Drill

Parent Input -

Classroom Placement 2024-2025

This time of year means we are finishing up the current school year, but also beginning our planning for the following year. As part of this process, Winnequah Staff will begin planning for classes for next year soon. One component of the placement process is consideration of parent input. If there is anything about your child's needs that you would like us to consider in the placement process, please let us know on this online form by Friday, April 5th. Please do not request a specific teacher. Parental input will be considered carefully before making decisions. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about this process.

SEL March Topics

In March, Winnequah Owls will be learning ways to solve problems with peers. They will learn the "STEP" model: Say the problem without blame; Think of solutions; Explore the solutions; and Pick the best solution. Owls will practice using these skills during their Second Step lessons. We will also be celebrating Women's History Month. This year's theme is Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and we will learn about notable women who have worked for equality and inclusion. Finally, we will learn about Ramadan, the holy month celebrated in Muslim communities that begins on March 10th.
