It's Pancake Party Time!

On Saturday, May 13th, the Spirit of Springfield will be serving up the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast to celebrate Springfield's 387th Birthday. Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl C. Clapprood will president over the event as this year's Honorary Chair.

“I’m truly honored to be selected by the Spirit of Springfield as the Honorary Chair of the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast. The pancake breakfast brings thousands of members of our community together, especially the students from our Springfield Public Schools,” said Springfield Police Superintendent. Clapprood. She continues, “I am looking forward to interacting with our community when I’ll be wearing a different type of uniform. The Spirit of Springfield always delivers on events our city can be proud of and I can’t wait to help make this year’s pancake breakfast the best ever.”

There will be plenty of pancakes, butter, syrup, bacon, milk, juice, coffee, and water for all. Tickets are just $3 for adults and $1 for children. Over 75,000 free tickets were distributed to area students.

There will also be plenty to do and see with activities in Court Square, TD Bank Plaza, and the entertainment stages at Bruce Landon Way and Harrison Way.

The speaking program will be at 9:30am on the Peter Pan Futurliner on Bruce Landon Way with Mayor Domenic Sarno, Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, MGM Springfield President Chris Kelley, Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, Zito from Mix 93.1 FM, and other distinguished guests.

Superintendent Clapprood will also be serenaded by the St. Michael's Academy School Chorus.

Celebrate Springfield's Spirit

The World's Largest Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by MGM Springfield, is a celebration of Springfield's spirit. Since 1986, when Springfield celebrated its 350th birthday, the community has been hosting a pancake party, except in 1987 when cereal was served on the World's Longest Pancake Breakfast table.

This year, breakfast will be served May 13th from 8am to 11am on a table that will stretch down Main Street from State Street to Bridge Street. There will be three cooking tents, four ticket tables, 12 beverage stations and more than 300 volunteers working as a team with support from Gleason Johndrow Landscaping.

All the products served and the paper products they will be served on were donated to the Spirit of Springfield. This includes cases of pancake mix from Performance Food Service that will be whipped into 500 gallons of batter by Mercy Medical Center. Baystate Health, Health New England and Mansfield Paper Company donated plates, cups, napkins and utensils. H. P. Hood will deliver hundreds of gallons of milk, juice and cream. Cabot Creamery will make sure each stack of pancakes is topped with butter, and Smithfield Packaged Meats will bring the bacon with the help of the Hampden County Sheriff's Department and MGM Springfield. The Sheraton Springfield will be donating and brewing all the coffee.

The Springfield Business Improvement District and the Hampden County Sheriff's Department will be the last to leave Main Street as they will be sure the street is swept clean.
