Love Your Beach? Save the Shore

Say #YEStoBeaches!

The American Coastal Coalition is proud to announce the launch of #YEStoBeaches, a coordinated national advocacy campaign dedicated to protecting America's coasts.

From local economies and tourism to wildlife habitats and family traditions, our beaches matter. Together, we can ensure these places remain accessible, resilient, and thriving for generations to come.

Our Goal: We need $200 million annually for beach nourishment for the US Army Corps of Engineers to ensure every community gets beach nourishment when they need it. Otherwise, everything we know and love about the beach could be washed away in one storm.

Help us say #YEStoBeaches so that Congress listens.

Why This Campaign?

Most Members of Congress don't hear from their constituents about beach funding. That silence is read as indifference, which leads to project cuts when budgets get tight. But Congress listens when constituents show up.

Your voice makes a difference. You don't need to be an expert. You don't need to know the legislation by name. You just need to say: I care about this, and I'm paying attention.

Summer is our best opportunity to demonstrate public support for America’s beaches. That’s why the American Coastal Coalition and its members are leading a coordinated, national advocacy campaign called #YEStoBeaches, highlighting the economic, environmental and social benefits of federal investment in the Nation’s beaches.

We’ll be showcasing Member Spotlights, sharing coastal facts and collecting signatures on a petition that we’ll deliver to Capitol Hill in the Fall.

Background

Decades of erosion, rising seas, disrupted sediment flow, and increasingly severe storms are steadily washing away America’s shorelines. Scientists warn that nearly half of the world’s sandy beaches could disappear by 2100 if action is not taken.

America’s coastal communities generate more than $10 trillion annually in goods and services (NOAA), and beaches serve as the first line of defense from hurricanes, flooding, and storm damage. These natural systems are not just beautiful landscape - they are critical national infrastructure. When the sand disappears, homes, roads, businesses, wildlife habitat, and public safety are all put at greater risk.

The good news is that solutions exist.

Beach nourishment and coastal restoration projects are proven, effective investments that protect communities, strengthen local economies, preserve wildlife habitat, and reduce long-term disaster costs. Communities across the country are already working to implement these projects but they can't do it alone.

That is why we are calling on Congress to provide at least $200 million in Fiscal Year 2027 for beach nourishment and coastal storm risk management projects nationwide.

What we fail to protect today may be impossible to restore tomorrow. Join the #YEStoBeaches campaign, and stay tuned for more updates and information all summer long!
