Greetings!

We hope you will join us this Sunday to hear Mary Sheeran speak on "You Are the Salt of the Earth." Relevant scripture passages are below, right. Ms. Sheeran, "Mary," (Episcopal) is an associate member of Chelsea Community Church, earned an M.Div. degree at New York Theological Seminary. A writer/editor in the medical/pharmaceutical field, she also writes on theological topics. A classically trained soprano, she has created and performed cabaret acts. She is the author of two novels, Who Have the Power: A Legend of the West (2006) and Quest of the Sleeping Princess (2010). She has also created a drama, The Gospel of Martha, with music by Robert Perretti of Chelsea Community Church.

At the conclusion of the service, there is a brief communion service around the altar offered to all, using bread and grape juice.  Anyone interested is welcome!

We look forward to seeing you!

S CRIPTURE
New International Version (NIV)

Luke 18:9-14

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'

"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'

"I tell you that this man, rather than the other,

 went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

Song of Songs 2:11-15

She

"See! The winter is past;

    the rains are over and gone.

Flowers appear on the earth;

    the season of singing has come,

the cooing of doves
    is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit;
    the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
    my beautiful one, come with me."

He

My dove in the clefts of the rock,

    in the hiding places on the mountainside,
show me your face,
    let me hear your voice;
for your voice is sweet,
    and your face is lovely.
Catch for us the foxes,
    the little foxes
that ruin the vineyards,
    for our vines have tender grapes.

Acts 2:42-47

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Matthew 5:13-16

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
