MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

LOOKING FORWARD

We're back from winter break and the second half of the school year and PTA terms are in full swing! Each PTA should be kicking off the mid-year membership drive and electing nominating committees for the election of the 2023-24 officers! Mark your calendars for upcoming training opportunities for new and returning PTA leaders:

 - California State PTA Convention - April 21-23, 2023, Sacramento, Ca

 - First District PTA Leadership Conference - June 10, 2023, West Covina, CA

We are excited for our Annual Association Meeting & Founders' Day when we celebrate the PTA vision that began over 126 years ago with the efforts of Alice McLellan Birney, Phoebe Apperson Hearst, and Selena Sloan Butler to improve the lives of all children. Join us to celebrate!

As always, First District PTA is amazed and grateful for the volunteerism we see each day from YOU and hundreds of other PTA leaders throughout First District positively impacting the lives of all children and families.

Best regards,

Jessica Sheen, President

CALIFORNIA BUDGET UPDATE

Wondering about the California education budget proposal? Ed100 has an informative blog post written by Carol Kocivar:

How is the education budget for 2023-24 being created?

Governor Newsom has proposed a budget for next year that juggles many challenges. When the stock market sneezes, California’s budget gets sick. Carol summarizes how the proposal will affect schools and explains how the public can be involved in the budget process. You’ll want to bookmark this one!

REFLECTIONS

The National PTA Reflections Arts program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts to help boost student confidence as well as success in the arts and in life. First District PTA had over 2,150 students participate in this year's theme: “Show Your Voice.”

Twenty-seven of the student entries were submitted to California State PTA for the next level of judging.

Over 100 students will be recognized for their entries at the First District Reflections awards ceremony this spring. More information to come on the date/time/location.
