MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

ELECTIONS AND TRANSITIONS

Can you believe March is here already? We just finished our celebrations of PTA Founders' Day and 126 years of honoring the mission of our founders and working to improve the lives of all children and families. And now, it's PTA election season! Below are a few important reminders for the days and weeks following your election:

Officer Contact Info - As soon as your PTA has elected the officers for the upcoming term, it is the responsibility of the outgoing PTA president to enter the incoming boards' contact information into myPTEZ.  HERE is a link with video instructions.

Vacancies - Hopefully every PTA elects a full slate of officers for the 2022-23 term. So often, a few vacancies remain. "If an office is vacant after the election because an officer-elect resigns or because no one was elected to fill the office, it shall be considered a vacant office to be filled by the board-elect according to the bylaws."

Transition - As soon as the election is over, it's time to start thinking about a transition plan. Good transitions = great starts!  HERE are great tips for a smooth officer transition.

Also, see our updated 2022-23 Master Calendar for upcoming events!

If you have any questions, always reach out to your council or district leaders! We are here to make your volunteer role easier!

Best regards,

Jessica Sheen, President

HSA NOMINATION FORM

CALIFORNIA STATE PTA CONVENTION

We would love to invite you all to attend the upcoming CAPTA Convention on April 21st-23rd, 2023, in Sacramento.

As mentioned previously, this is an election year, and the State PTA will be voting on many resolutions.

We would like to encourage every council and every unit to attend if possible. Conventions are an excellent opportunity for all PTA leaders to connect, train, advocate, and return back to your council/unit with some valuable information.

Make sure to check your bylaws to determine how many delegates per association can attend. Also, as a safe practice, please motion and record in your minutes who your delegates are and the expenditures allowed.

California State PTA voted to align with the current CDC recommendations in regard to Covid vaccination and masks. Proof of vaccination or mask-wearing is no longer required to register/attend the CAPTA Convention.

TREASURER

AGENCY LETTERS

REACH OUT UPON RECEIPT OF A LETTER

Have you received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Franchise Tax  Board (FTB), or Attorney General’s Office (AG)? Or at least something that LOOKS like a letter from the government?

DON’T CALL THEM — CALL PTA!

In-council PTAs: Send a copy of the letter to council leadership; council leadership forwards the letter to First District PTA for assistance.

Out-of-Council PTAs: Send a copy of the letter directly to First District PTA.

Email copies of letters to [email protected] AND [email protected].

The finance team at First District PTA will help you navigate the process to respond to the letters.

Examples of legitimate and non-legitimate agency letters can be seen here: Treasurer's Update
