Wrapped in Love
Wrapped in Love started in 2015 as a staff initiative. We would collect all of the hats, gloves and scarves that we could. We reached out to local communities to see if we could hang them around trees in their parks. The idea was very well received.
The following year, we were really busy and did not think about doing the event again. We were very surprised when clients and local agencies began to call asking when we would be putting them out again.
Since then, it has become one of CAP’s most important initiatives. We chose a name "Wrapped in Love" and worked with many partners to ensure that we would be able to meet the need. We now put them in large ziplock bags to protect them from the weather and hang them with ribbon. When we first began we hung 10-15 sets. Now , it is not uncommon for us to hang out 100 sets a season.
The need for Wrapped in Love quickly turned into more requests for winter weather items. This is what lead us to open the Code Blue Closet which provides a variety of needs including winter coats, snow pants and boots. This season we have already provided the community with over a 100 sets of hats, gloves and scarves and 60- 70 winter coats. We are always accepting donations of new or gently used winter items. If in need of winter gear you can call us at 315-697-3588.
Thank you,
Sandi Bain

Our 1st Hat & Mitten Drive
was a success!

This November, MCRHC organized our first-ever Hat and Mitten Drive to benefit Madison County children and adults in need of warm hats and mittens/gloves this winter.
A BIG thank you to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County, AmeriCU Credit Union in Cazenovia and public libraries in Morrisville, New Woodstock and DeRuyter for allowing us to set-up bins at their locations.
Overall, we received 179 hats and 103 pairs of mittens/gloves! We are so appreciative to all of those who donated brand new hats and mittens- many handmade by local residents.
This month we dropped of donations received from our Hat and Mitten Drive to the following organizations:

- DeRuyter Central Schools
- DeRuyter Community Closet
- Community Action Partnership of Madison County: Diaper Pantry and Code Blue Closet
- The Opportunity Shop: Angel Christmas

We look forward to next year's Hat and Mitten Drive!
