The upcoming presentation features Dr. Zahara Rahimi, Assistant Professor of Curriculum Studies within the Department Education at Allameh Tabataba'i University. This event is hosted by the University of Texas at Arlington College of Education.

Title: Mathematics Education in Iran: An introduction to a national curriculum.

Rahimi’s presentation provides an introduction of mathematics within Iran’s national educational system. She provides her observations of curriculum planning as a member of the committee and highlights Iran’s mathematics curriculum United States educators.

About Zahara

Dr. Rahimi started as an assistant professor in the Department of Education at Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU). She was a high school mathematics teacher for 20 years. Her research focuses on mathematics education, including mathematical thinking, visual thinking, multiple solution tasks in mathematics, elementary and preschool education, and educational acceleration. She has also been the co-author of national elementary and secondary math textbooks and also a member of the committee for planning the national curriculum for mathematics education for K-12 in Iran. In this presentation, she will provide an introduction to educational system in Iran focusing on mathematics. She will also introduce the national math curriculum in Iran and highlight features of the curriculum that may be interesting from a U.S. perspective.

Where: 009 and 010 Trimble Hall, located at 700 S. West St. Arlington, TX, 76010 on the UTA campus. To access the center, take the elevators located in the Trimble-Hammond Hall Complex down to Floor B. (An option to join virtually is also available.)
