As we get ready to close out 2024, we highlight one of our founding members, Mr. Robert Voit, better known to his friends as Bob. Bob, has stayed connected with the Club throughout our 32 years of service across the West San Fernando Valley.
This year he generously made an additional end-of-year gift to help mobilize our community to grow our individual giving at the Club. Thus we set out on Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, to mobilize families to give $5 and invite 5 friends to join them in giving $5. This was an excellent way for families to recognize and thank staff who tirelessly support their kids in our after-school programs and during the spring, summer, fall, and winter camps offered. Then at our recent Not So Silent Night event individuals were also challenged to raise their paddle to support the Club with gifts ranging from $100, $500, $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000.
Today you can honor Bob's passion and dedication to giving, investing in tomorrow's youth, and; more importantly, inviting others into the joy of giving. You, too, can be a life changer. Consider making an end-of-year gift to the Club by midnight--tonightt! All gifts make a difference in the work taking place. Thank you for honoring faithful donors like Bob for their generosity.

Winter Party and Gift Donations
|
Our winter party was a lot of fun, made even better by the new friends we made with Sneaker Hustle USA! They brought an amazing selection of toys for our members to choose from, adding an extra layer of excitement to the celebration.
During the party, we created winter-themed art pieces, decorated cookies and cookie houses, played fun games, and enjoyed a pizza party together!
We are incredibly grateful to our members and their families for making 2024 such an amazing year. We can't wait to see what 2025 has in store for us in the new year!

December was brimming with festive and enjoyable activities. Members baked cookies attended a cozy pajama and hot chocolate party, and participated in a variety of fun events. A standout highlight was the field trip for the Cooper Reading Challenge, which provided an exciting opportunity to deepen their passion for reading. We took 24 members on the trip, and each was thrilled to choose their favorite books. After selecting their books, they had them wrapped, adding an extra layer of excitement and anticipation. This thoughtful gesture further ignited their love for literature and made the experience truly unforgettable.

Old Navy
“Adopt a family”
| |
|
In partnership with Old Navy, we launched the "Adopt a Family" program to provide clothes, shoes, and toys to families in need. Given the freedom to select families who would benefit most, I chose two experiencing homelessness at Serrania Elementary. This one-time event aimed to bring joy and essential items to families facing significant challenges. The families were overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude for the unexpected kindness and support. I, too, felt grateful to be part of this opportunity to assist those in need.
A standout feature of the program was the heartfelt collaboration between Old Navy and the local community, who came together to create a meaningful and lasting impact during the holiday season.

The Mosk Boys & Girls Club hosts a unique club for its members every Friday. During the winter months, as the sun sets earlier, we are able to hold an interactive Astronomy Club. Members learn how to use a real telescope to stargaze and explore our neighboring planets. In this photo, one of our members observes the full moon, spotting craters and discussing the various cycles of the moon.
Astronomy Club was created in response to member interest. Thank you to our Mosk Boys & Girls Club members for sharing your passions and making your voices heard!

The Teen Center had an amazing opportunity to collaborate with the Arthur Murray Dance Academy this month. Six of our members participated in the program, attending sessions at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, where they learned Salsa, Mambo, Samba, and Cumbia. The program culminated in a stunning performance at our Not So Silent Night event, where the teens showcased a beautiful routine incorporating these dance styles. This program was designed to boost confidence, enhance teamwork skills, and provide a platform for self-expression.

-Canoga Park High School-

The Boys and Girls Club Bilingual Immersion Program at Canoga Park High School brings together students from diverse linguistic backgrounds to celebrate the holidays with a creative gingerbread house-making activity. Designed to foster cultural exchange and teamwork, the program targets bilingual students and those eager to embrace language learning in a festive environment. Over 25 members participated in the activity, held on the last Tuesday of the semester. This event uniquely emphasized the importance of bilingualism and cultural traditions, showcasing the students’ creativity and collaborative spirit in a joyful celebration.
The after-school film program, led by Coach Jenna, offered 10 high school members an exciting opportunity to learn the basics of filmmaking over the course of 8 weeks. Members gained hands-on experience in camera handling, recording, and editing, and they were thrilled to explore the process of creating a short film. The course was well-received, with members expressing enthusiasm for the skills they acquired and the creative projects they developed.
|
The STEM program, which includes drones, Arduino kits, and math and science tutoring, greatly benefits students. The drone program, led by Coach Umang, sparks creativity and teaches practical skills, while the Arduino kits provide hands-on learning in coding and electronics. The drone program is designed to teach students engineering principles, improve hand-eye coordination, strengthen their understanding, and boost confidence. It inspires students to explore and excel in STEM fields. The target audience is youth interested in learning more about science, technology, engineering, and math through a hands-on approach. Learning how to build and operate drones is also a valuable skill for those pursuing careers in the STEM workforce. The program will run throughout the entire school year. Once students become proficient in handling drones, they will be able to participate in an obstacle course and competition. The youth truly enjoy this tactile way of learning.
