A Once in a Generation Site.
A Community Driven Vision.

Your Voice, Your Future:

Reimagining the Hamilton Site

The former Hamilton Industries site is one of the most important redevelopment opportunities Two Rivers will ever have. What happens here will shape downtown and nearby neighborhoods for generations.

At the last City Council meeting on January 26, the Council reviewed a deliberate, resident-driven approach for creating a shared community vision for this site. Now City Hall is moving forward, working hand-in-hand with the current property owner and launching a structured resident engagement process BEFORE decisions are made about this property.

Beginning in early February and continuing through the spring, residents will help shape ideas, site layout, infrastructure needs, public access, and design concepts, all culminating in a shared community vision in mid-summer.

This property is simply too important to make decisions about without broad public input. We want a vision driven by the community that guides future development the right way.

Stay informed and get involved: keep an eye on the Cool City Connect and watch your monthly utility bill newsletter for details.

The first Community Visioning meeting is next week, with 2 options to attend!

Details are on the meeting calendar at the bottom of this newsletter.

Growing Our Own Trees: A New Partnership with Two Rivers High School

Students and City Partner to Grow the Future of Two Rivers

This spring, the City of Two Rivers is partnering with the Two Rivers High School construction class to create a gravel-bed tree nursery at the City Cemetery.

Gravel-bed nurseries are used to temporarily plant bare-root tree saplings, allowing them to quickly develop strong, fibrous root systems before being transplanted into parks, school grounds, and public rights-of-way throughout the community.

This approach will significantly reduce the City’s cost of tree planting. Traditionally, large landscape trees cost approximately $200–$250 per tree. By growing trees through a gravel-bed nursery, the City can purchase lower-cost bare-root trees, improve survival rates, and produce high-quality trees for planting at a fraction of the cost.

Beyond cost savings, this project creates hands-on, real-world learning opportunities for students while building long-term capacity to expand Two Rivers’ urban tree canopy in a cost-effective and sustainable way.

It’s a win for students, a win for taxpayers, and a win for the long-term health and beauty of our community.
