A Message from our President

Happy June! There is lots of great information to share so I am going to jump right in….

Golf: it was AWESOME!! A huge Thank You to Peter Dolloff and his whole committee, Lisa our EO, the volunteers, and the staff at Passaconaway. Everyone had a great time and a record-breaking amount of money was raised to keep our organization running smoothly. Be on the lookout for the pics on our Facebook page. Congratulations to all and thank you to our sponsors and players. If you still have the golf itch, check out below on how to get involved with our Fall Golf Tournament this September.

Membership: at our last State Board Meeting, Matt Mayberry, our Executive Vice President, let us know that we have exceeded 500 members for our organization statewide. This is amazing news. Many more people are seeing the value in our organization and what is does for our industry as a whole and for their businesses and they are signing up. Please welcome all of our new members. If you see someone new at an event, please walk up and say hello. Welcome them to our wonderful builder family that we have. On behalf of the whole board, we are honored and grateful to serve you.

Legislative news: We are excited to share that our Air Exchange Bill has passed both houses in Concord and is on its way to Governor Sununu’s desk for his signature to become law! This is a great accomplishment that our members wanted for health and safety reasons for homeowners here in New Hampshire. The old rates of exchange were causing health concerns and building safety issues. Thanks for everyone who reached out to their Legislators as well as the State Staff for working hard to explain a complicated issue to lawmakers. Even with that big victory, the battle rages on (and has gone national) over the 2021 Energy Codes, or as we like to call it “the Green Energy Tax.” The Staff is staying on top of this issue and they are supported by the Government Affairs Committee. We won the first round and we are poised to take the second round as well. A huge thank you to our members at Southern (that’s you!) for the extra support that we sent to the state to wage this battle on our behalf. We are lucky enough to be in a position to increase our support to fight for what is right and what we need in our industry. Thank you!

We have some great upcoming events and we hope that you have already signed up for them and put them on your calendar: August will be great fun with our Harbor Cruise in Portsmouth. This is a member appreciation event so we have kept ticket prices very low and we are grateful to Atlantic Builders Supply, Belletete’s, Ed O’s and Messina’s Flooring for their sponsorships of this event to make that happen. You guys are awesome! Come join us on the water for drinks, music, dinner, and fellowship. Sponsorships are still available!!

Thank you very much for your support of our organization. We are grateful for each and every one of our members. This is a truly special organization and that is made possible by each and every one of you.

Cheers!

Update: Lead Paint Law

Please see the email below from our friend and member Bill McKinney, President of the NH Building Officials' Association, who flagged the new changes to RSA 130 regarding lead paint certification and new rental construction that will take effect on 01 July 2024. At the bottom of the email, there is contact information for NH DHHS if you have questions or concerns about the new language.

From Bill McKinney:

For those not aware, a new NH lead paint poisoning prevention and control law was passed by the state Legislature and Governor in 2018, with an effective date of July 1, 2024. In preparation for the new NH lead law, RSA 130-A:5-d Sale and Rental of Property, that goes into effect July 1, 2024 you will find the attached factsheet being distributed by the Department of Health and Human Services. This new law requires a ‘Lead Safe Certificate’ issued by a licensed Risk Assessor for new dwelling units and newly licensed day cares in pre-1978 buildings.  At our Association’s meeting on July 10th, the Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will be presenting information on this new law and will be available to answer questions.

Until that time, it is important to prepare for July 1 and educate property owners, contractors and others. Below is sample language that you can add to your websites along with the attached flyer from DHHS. This law does affect all current permitted and future projects in pre-1978 buildings. To prepare for these new requirements, some communities are contacting their current building permit holders that will be impacted by this new law so they are prepared to obtain this ‘Lead Safe Certificate’.  A ‘Lead Safe Certificate’ will be required for occupancy beginning July 1st.

Lead Safe Certification Required for New Dwelling Units and Day Care Facilities in Pre-1978 Buildings

NH RSA 130-A:5-d becomes effective July 1, 2024, and requires all newly constructed rental dwelling units and newly licensed day care facilities within buildings erected prior to January 1, 1978 to have certification of lead safety prior to being used and prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy. This applies to projects that are currently underway or were issued a building permit prior to the effective date. For fact sheet click here. For more information click here.
