A Message from our President
Spring is here and lots of great events and happenings are Blooming with our organization!
First up, in a few weeks, is our Spring Golf Tournament at Passacaonaway Country Club on the 21st. The course is full of golfers and sponsors and we couldn’t be more proud of the work that the Committee did to make this the best tournament ever. Thank you so much! If you missed out on this awesome event, planning is already underway for our Fall Golf Tournament that will be held this year at the Windham Country Club on September 10th. Be on the lookout for golf and sponsorship opportunities!
June has one of our best food events ever on the schedule: our June Meet up with our friends (and Major Sponsor), East Coast Lumber. You’ll see info on how to register below. And I’m not kidding on the food: Goody Coles! Now Mike Barrett has assured me that he is going to order even more than last year. For those who don’t know, Good Coles is a smokehouse in Brentwood NH that has to have the best BBQ in the state. If you think you know of one better, please email me as I’d like to check it out. Mike and his team also have some great outdoor games planned for us. Come by for great good at a great place for some networking and fun. I’m calling “first” for the chow line! See you there.
New for this year is our August event: a dinner harbor cruise aboard the Thomas Laighton. Your board’s very own Alison Milioto and Lynette Rogers are leading the way on this fun event committee. Thank you, Alison and Lynette. They have some sponsorship opportunities available as well to highlight your business. We are looking forward to great food and networking on the water. Pay special attention to the event details so we don’t leave anyone stranded on the dock.
Lastly, I want to talk about the 2021 Energy Codes. I highlighted this important battle last month and I want to keep it top of mind for you. While we have the most fun possible, we are really here to be a trade organization and advocate for our industry and peers and partners in it. The State Staff recently shared some very alarming and important Talking Points with our membership over why these proposed, mandated codes are bad news for our builder members and the public trying to buy new housing stock. Please check them out. One huge highlight to take away is this number: $249,000,000. That number is the total cost of the debt burden on the backs of homeowners for one year of buying one of these “green homes” over the life of the mortgage. It’s $76,000,000 in upfront costs to start.
As a mortgage banker, I can tell you that there is one word that comes up frequently in all my talks with builders and borrowers: AFFORDABILITY. None of these proposals saves enough costs over the long haul to make them worth it. These codes contrary to our members’ missions of affordable, well built homes. Please help us by talking about the Green Energy Tax and help us to defeat it. We’ve one Round One, but our adversaries are gearing up for the next round and they are not going away easily. We need your help.
