Permit(s) Not Honored In:
California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington.

Note: Some states have conditions on reciprocity. Thus, some states do not honor TN permits issued to 18-20 year old adults. Some states honor the permit but only for concealed carry. It is important to check the laws of each state that you plan to visit.

Note: Persons with a valid Tennessee Handgun Carry permit should contact any state for information on carrying such handgun prior to entering the state.
A Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit is issued for an 8 Year Period for $100 and can be renewed for 8 years for $50. A Retired Law Enforcement Lifetime permit is available for $100. The permit does not list your firearms and is good for as many as you own. No firearms need be presented for inspection but you do need to qualify with a pistol in a live fire test before the initial permit will be issued.

No Handgun Carry Permit is required to purchase a pistol, which may be kept in your residence, place of business or vehicle without a Handgun Carry Permit.
