News from the diocese
Electronic monthly Mission Share payments now available
money transfer
For the past year, the diocesan Finance Office has been working on implementing an electronic pay option for our churches to remit their monthly mission share. We are rolling it out this month.

Congregations may begin to submit their mission share payment through an online portal with our financial accounting software company, Shelby. The DSO is making this change in response to parish requests for online payment option and because we believe the electronic system is more efficient and will reduce staff time to record the payments.

Bonding of parish treasurers and other officers who handle church funds
dollar sign
Recently, a congregation raised a question whether its Treasurer was required to be “bonded” in accordance with Episcopal Church and Diocesan Canons. Diocesan Canons state that treasurers and other officers of a church parish, mission or other institution be “bonded” according to Episcopal Church Canons. Episcopal Church Canons require that treasurers be “adequately bonded.”

Christ Church Cathedral calls the Rev. Owen C. Thompson as next dean
Owen Thompson
Upon the recommendation of the dean search committee, last evening the vestry of Christ Church Cathedral unanimously elected the Rev. Owen C. Thompson as the next dean. The appointment was also affirmed by Bishop Kenneth L Price, Jr.

If he looks kind of familiar, Thompson is the son of late Russelle Cross Thompson and the late Rt. Rev. Herbert Thompson Jr., the eighth Bishop of Southern Ohio. He was ordained to the priesthood at Christ Church Cathedral in 2003 and has spent the last eighteen years in parish ministry in the Dioceses of Long Island and New York. He currently serves as Rector of Grace Church, Nyack. Thompson will begin his ministry at Christ Church Cathedral in early September.

June is Pride Month
Pride flag
Most Pride activities were held virtually or shelved in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and while 2021 is seeing a return to "sort of" normal, not all communities will be holding their usual Pride activities. Here is a list of some Pride activities in our communities so that Episcopalians can show up and support our LBGTIQ+ Community.

Columbus
Columbus will not hold any in-person Pride events this year, but Stonewall Columbus will hold a virtual Pride March on Saturday, June 19 beginning at 9:30 a.m. You can learn more about it here.

Springfield
Equality Springfield is organizing the 2021 Pride event for Saturday, June 26 from noon to 4 p.m. Details are not yet all announced, but you can keep up with the latest information here.

Cincinnati
Cincinnati will not be holding a parade or festival in-person this year, but a Pride Market featuring LGBTQ-owned and affirming businesses will be held on Sunday, June 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Washington Park in downtown Cincinnati. You can learn more about the Pride Market here.
Glimpses of Hamilton Pride

Hamilton held its inaugural Pride celebration June 5. Here's a few pics of the Episcopal Church presence at the event.

Campus Ministry Grants
Campus Ministry grants for the 2021-22 program year are due no later than June 25, 2021. The grant application can be found on the diocesan website under Financial Assistance.

All those who receive Campus Ministry grant funds are required to participate in the Campus Ministry Collaborative, which consists of representatives of the campus ministries in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. The Collaborative meets once a year in person at Procter Center and additional times via video conference. If you are applying for the first time, you will be asked to join the video conference meeting on July 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. to discuss your grant request and listen to the others.

Direct questions to the Rev. Deborah Woolsey at revdebwoolsey@gmail.com.

CoCL grants can help with your 'new normal'
Did you have some amazing plans for reaching out into your local community to share the loving message of Jesus Christ and the mission of the Episcopal Church?  In the midst of COVID did you have some great new ideas to try once COVID ended?  Are you coming out of COVID with new ideas for ministry?

If you answered “yes” to any or one of these questions, then the Commission on Congregational Life may be of help. The Grant application for CoCL New Ministry Grants can be found here.

Also – if you have any questions or want to discuss your idea(s) please feel free to reach out to Fr. Seth Wymer, CoCL chair, at rector@stjohnlancaster.org.
Join the 2021 PIMIL virtual fundraising

The PIMIL Council made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person luncheon again this year. Instead, we will hold another virtual activity on July 17. Here's how you can help PIMIL reach its fundraising goal and get a tasty Liberian recipe too!
