The PMA Youth and Government Club participated in the annual YMCA Model Government Congress in Boston.  The juniors had their annual class retreat.  Speaker, Jason Evert visited the school and PMA students won CAC sports awards in addition to being recognized by the Methuen Rotary.   You will read about all this and more below.  Enjoy.

The 10th Annual Spring Gala Legacy Awards and Auction
The 10th Annual Spring Gala Legacy Evening and Auction was held on Friday, April 8 at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club.  The event was preceded by an online auction that showcased close to 150 items. for nearly two weeks.   Combined, these two fundraisers were a huge success and were able to raise over $40,000 for student programs and scholarships.  We want to extend the sincerest thank you to our students, families, faculty and staff, board members, alumni, sponsors and auction donors for assisting us in making this the most successful Legacy Gala and Auction to date.

Below are some pictures of our Legacy Award recipients, a few of the many staff who celebrated anniversaries and other pictures of this wonderful evening.

PMA Youth and Government Club Attend YMCA Model Government Congress
Seven members of the PMA Youth and Government  Club attended  the YMCA's 33rd Model Government Congress. The event was held from March 10-12 at the Omni Parker House in Boston.

Students either drafted a bill and presented it to 500 delegates, or they served in judicial roles and acted as jurors, attorneys or judges.  PMA achieved the status of Premier Delegation for their hard work.

PMA junior and three time congress participant, Sean Toomey, drafted a bill mandating that every public high school in Massachusetts have one Narcan system on school property at all times.  He was invited to attend the Congress on National Affairs (CONA) in Washington, D.C., for the third year in a row because his bill passed through congress.

Other PMA Youth and Government members who attended the conference were Nicholas Vicenty, '16, Isabel Santel-Wright, '16, Emma Pimentel, '17, Samuel Mather, '19, and Zachery Robinson, '19.

Luke Latino: Eagle Scout
This past December, PMA junior Luke Latino, achieved Eagle Scout status. Because of this achievement, he was presented with an Eagle Scout Award at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony, on Saturday, April 23.

Luke's service project to earn Eagle Scout rank began in September of 2014.  His project was to raise funds and replace the school sign at his alma mater, St. Joseph Regional Catholic School.  He organized a pasta dinner and raised $4,500.  He then used the money and worked closely with a sign company to help create and design St. Joe's new school sign.  He was involved in every aspect of this project, from the planning, to the design, and implementation. It ultimately took Luke almost a year and a half to complete his project, but now he is an Eagle Scout. Only 4% of Boy Scouts achieve this rank.. What a remarkable accomplishment.

Jason Evert Speaks to PMA Students

On Monday, April 4, Jason Evert, founder of the Chastity project, spoke to our students about love, respect, purity, and chasity.  He tackled important teen topics then answered questions from the students in a two hour assembly period.  His candid talk filled with humor and high energy mixed with a non-judgmental and relatable approach was a great way for students to hear about otherwise sensitive topics for young adults.

Junior Retreat
The Junior Retreat was held on Tuesday, April 5th at the Rolling Ridge Retreat House in North Andover.

The theme of the day was "Faith Journeys" focusing on how we are all "pilgrims on the road" in reference to a prayer by St. Augustine, states PMA Campus Minister Francis Stanton.  He set up a number of the games that day to focus on the theme and specifically on how life presents us with challenges that help us to grow and develop in our faith but it can also throw some curve-balls as well.

The weather was cool for April with a fresh blanket of snow on the ground, it didn't dampen their spirits.  The juniors still warmed up to each other, were open minded and receptive to speakers.  Everything a retreat is all about.

Campus Ministry Movie Club
The Campus Ministry Movie Club Before God's Not Dead 2
PMA Campus Minister, Francis Stanton, and the Campus Ministry club have started an impromptu movie club, attending four movies over the past few months, with one more planned before summer break. The idea arose at a Campus Ministry meeting to go see the movie Risen as a group, and the rest, as they say is movie history.  Since then, Mr. Stanton has felt encouraged and comfortable taking his club members on these movie outings.  "We just happen to be very fortunate to have a string of successive Christian themed movies playing, with inspirational and powerful messages, such as The Young Messiah, Miracles from Heaven, and God's Not Dead 2."

The next anticipated movie outing will by early June to see Me Before You, which is about a female caretaker who helps to bring hope to a suicidal quadriplegic. It has a strong, pro-life message that life is indeed worth living.  A message that everyone can benefit from.

PMA gives Mr. Stanton and his band of movie-goers
four stars!
