MAYORS MESSAGE I Mayor Lyle Holmgren

A TIME TO HEAL

by Lyle Holmgren

We are all shocked and saddened by the recent events in our community. The past few weeks have been difficult, as many have questioned how this could occur in our town. There is something particularly heartbreaking about the abuse of children. Numerous residents are troubled that notable community figures are allegedly linked to such reprehensible acts. The reality is that child abuse exists widely across our nation, and Tremonton and Box Elder County are not exempt from it.

When examining national statistics on child sexual abuse, it is evident how serious this issue is. According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys are victims of such abuse. In our community, we strive to raise awareness among citizens about its prevalence and to support those affected.

Domestic violence profoundly affects numerous families in our community, leading to harmful consequences for victims, their families, and our entire community. Child sexual abuse can have wide-ranging and devastating consequences for those who have been victimized, and for many, these effects can last a lifetime, influencing their psychological and physical well-being.

Just as children often need reminders to take precautions when crossing the road or to avoid playing with matches, many of us also need reminders regarding the serious nature of child sexual abuse. This topic should be included in our discussions with children, adolescents, and teens. Information can be introduced at an early age...

Community Needs Assessment Survey

Please keep an eye out for our up coming needs assessment survey. We need to know what you need and want from us. This survey will cover Parks, Recreation, and Community Events.

This survey will determine how we utilize our priorities and budget for the foreseeable future.

Being Firewise

Every year many families unnecessarily lose their homes and possessions to wildland fire. These losses can be minimized if homeowners take the time to become aware of safety measures to help protect their homes and complete some effective actions. You can minimize property damage and protect firefighters by hardening your home. Research tells us that most homes ignite during a wildfire as a result of embers or small flames. There are steps that homeowners can take to reduce the risk, with the most important efforts occurring on and immediately around the home. Look around your home for those small places where embers may sneak in to ignite a house fire. We must all learn to live with wildfire and become more Firewise.

Please see the below attached information to help you become more firewise as we go into the dry seasons.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

When: May 10, 2025

Where: Everywhere in Utah!

Letter carriers and hunger have one thing in common: neither is affected by the season, which is why letter carriers collect food in May every year to help people facing hunger. On the day of this statewide (and national) food drive, your letter carrier will not only deliver your mail, but they will also deliver your food donations to us and our statewide network of partner agencies.

Participating is easy! Just fill a bag or box with non-perishable food items and leave it next to your mailbox by 9 am on the day of the food drive for pickup by your local letter carrier. Look for a reminder bag in your mailbox during the week leading up to the food drive. Our most critical needs at this time are canned meats, peanut butter, boxed meals, and canned fruits and vegetables—no glass items, please

If anyone has a need with food insecurity to contact the Tremonton Community Food Pantry at 435-257-9530. or come Mon-Tuesday, from 3-6 pm Closed on Holidays. Proof of any Income and proof of Address needed to apply but for any questions or concerns please call.
