April 19, 2020 ~ Building Community One Positive Story at a Time
"West Bridgewater let’s use this
'DOOR OF HOPE AND GRATITUDE'
to shout out to ALL essential employees just how much we appreciate their efforts!
Take a drive by, say a prayer, or pause for a moment with a positive thought of hope and gratitude, thumbtack a note, think about ALL THE ESSENTIAL WORKERS and help bust open this door. On the corner of Bryant St and Arch Street near the town park.
Or sticking to the theme of working remotely feel free to virtually stop by. Leave a comment here I can try to print and add to the door.
Special Thanks to Carolyn’s Sister and Brother in law who started the idea to shout out hope and gratitude for my wife Carolyn. By the time they arrived with the door It was immediately changed to be for ALL OF YOU WORKING OUT THERE IN THESE SCARY TIMES.
WE THANK YOU!" John Butler

Historical Tidbit:

West Bridgewater Aviation
Aviation came early to West Bridgewater with the forced landing of a bi-plane in 1911. The plane was on its way to Bridgewater when it ran out of gas and was forced to land in a pasture on East Center Street just easterly of where Trucchi's Market is now located.
This fall occasion made a significant impression on the town's residents, seeing as the Wright brothers had flown only eight years earlier. Youngsters were impressed by the plane itself, and additionally so because of their early dismissal from school in order that they might view this strange looking visitor.

Family Engagement Needs Assessment
Massachusetts is the recipient of a Statewide Family Engagement Center grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
As a recipient of that grant and in order to learn more about the relationships that schools and families have with one another, DESE must annually conduct an assessment of families’ and educators’ needs related to family engagement. I encourage you to participate in this survey by visiting this website.
Grocery Store Worker Priority Testing
The Baker-Polito Administration and the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (4/10/20) expanded access to the free, priority COVID-19 testing sites for first responders to now include grocery store and supermarket workers.
Beginning Saturday, April 11, the men and women who provide critical access to food and other necessities (that is anyone selling groceries) may schedule an appointment to receive COVID-19 testing at the sites located at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro and the Big E fairgrounds in West Springfield.
All appointments must be made in advance by the worker’s supervisor or manager, and personnel do not need to be symptomatic to be eligible.

April is Poetry Month
Hmm. Poetry? You ask.
Of course.

To inspire your inner artist... poetry can express emotion and ideas in thoughtful and delicate ways, or in pounding stark ways. I thoroughly enjoy the unusual use of words. It taps into that which seems elusive. And so, for poetry month, lets look at poets!
Today, I am diving into the experience of Langston Hughes.

“Gather out of star-dust,
Earth-dust,
Cloud-dust,
Storm-dust,
And splinters of hail,
One handful of dream-dust,
Not for sale.”

"Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly."

“Oh, God of Dust and Rainbows,
Help us to see
That without the dust the rainbow
Would not be.”

“Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor --
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now --
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.”
Also, here is a great site for when you want to explore more poets. poets.org

Give it your all. You have everything you have ever needed to live life completely.
