CEDAR BRAE HOSTS THE WPUP OPEN
Scarborough, ON (August 14, 2016) -
This past Monday, the 16th event of the GTA AM Tour season was played. The WPUP Open was hosted at
Cedar Brae Golf & Country Club
.
With a full field on hand, competitors survived the scenic and challenging Cedar Brae G&CC, a par 71, 6,521 yard layout. The course winds lazily through the beautiful Rouge Valley, with picturesque fairways, true greens and natural beauty. Cedar Brae is a wonderful, private golf facility and is no stranger to hosting competitive events and major golf Tour Tournaments, including the LPGA, Canadian Tours, Provincial Championships and GAO qualifiers.
Plenty of familiar faces would dot the scoreboard this week. Champ Flight would see Tour veteran Peter Willis win, posting a sweet swinging 75. Ben Snider would come up just short shooting 76 and third place would be captured by Eric Velanoff with a score of 78.
In the A Flight, it was a photo finish with Derek Peters posting his third A Flight win with 78. Four others were deadlocked at 79. After card matching, Matt Palermo (Golf Away Tours) would finish in second place finish and Florante Balagasy would wind up in third.
Andrew Mitchell would post a sensational score of 79 to be crowned winner of the B Flight. Tour nice guy Mike Alcott posted 83 for second and third spot would go to Michael Cann with 84.
C Flight’s Jack Leong would post his first win in five years on Tour, with a lovely score of 85. He would close the door on G.M. Milan as he posted an 86. John Harris shot 88 to secure third spot.
Seniors' David Johnson would take first place in the gross competition and John Stanford finished in second place. Seniors' net was won by John Chun with a Net 63, closely followed by Fred Cousineau with Net 64.
Women’s Flight was won by Patricia Waite, recording Net 73.
Something unusual and unique happened in the C Flight. There were 21 players who played skins. Not one skin was won. The entire Flight decided to donate the $420 to The Darling Home for Kids. What an AMAZINGLY generous gesture...!
