In this exhibition on view in the historic house, American photographer Arnold Newman’s portraits of artists in their homes and studios will be paired with works from the Museum’s painting collection, including those by Stuart Davis, Horace Pippin, Reginald Marsh, and Charles Sheeler.

What’s in your city’s skyline? Join us in taking inspiration from urban landscapes on view in Hopper to Pollock and building cityscape sculptures from cardboard! 

Our Family First workshops happen the first Sunday of each month for you and your 1st through 6th grader.

Author Kathryn Aalto’s focus has been on places where nature and culture intersect: teaching literature of nature and place, designing gardens, and writing about the natural world. She is the author of two books:  The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh: A Walk Through the Forest that Inspired the Hundred Acre Wood  (2015) — a People Magazine Best Pick in Nonfiction and a feature on National Public Radio — and  Nature and Human Intervention  (2011).

A Sam Baker show is a celebration. Some songs tell of everyday people who survive life’s daily challenges; others are stories of growing up in a small Texas prairie town. All his shows are an acknowledgment and appreciation of the pure joy that comes with people gathering to listen to live music.

Performers Martha Bassett, Pat Lawrence and Tommy Jackson will join Baker for this evening of songs and stories.

Just in time for Easter, get in the spirit with an all-ages art activity and listening party inspired by  Hopper to Pollock . 88.5 WFDD will lead us in a listening party focused on selected excerpts from NPR stories all about collecting— whether it be it stamps, coins, figurines, or thimbles!

If you're baffled by Jackson Pollock’s drip paintings, you're not alone. David Lubin proposes that these paintings can become radiantly meaningful and all the more appealing to the eye when understood in the various contexts of their time, among them the cold war, the space age, movies, and jazz.

Lubin is the Charlotte C. Weber Professor of Art at Wake Forest University.
