FREDERIC CHURCH: A PAINTER'S PILGRIMAGE
Opening February 9

More than 50 paintings and studies of the Middle East, Rome, and Greece by an American original. Named one of Detroit's Best Museum Shows of 2017, Frederic Church: A Painter's Pilgrimage shows Church in the aftermath of the Civil War struggling with loss both national and personal. Through his landscapes of power and awe, we see one of the most famous American artists of the 19th century hone his skills and perfect his views of these biblical places.

SEE MORE OF OUR COLLECTION

While the Museum was closed in January, we opened the doors to art storage to share even more of the collection. We've recently installed many new paintings that were previously not on view including paintings by Andrew Wyeth, Jacob Lawrence, James Rosenquist, Thomas Hart Benton, Stuart Davis, and many others!

Find your favorites this season as we work to install over 90 paintings, prints, and decorative art objects from our permanent collection in the historic house and its bedroom galleries.
