EXHIBITIONS
DOROTHEA LANGE'S AMERICA
Final Weeks — closes December 30
Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California , 1936, Library of Congress, Prints & Photographs Division, FSA/OWI Collection. LC-DIG-fsa-8b29516.
Highlighting Dorothea Lange's America are oversized exhibition prints of the photographer's seminal images from the Great Depression, including  Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California  from 1936—an emblematic picture that came to personify pride and resilience in the face of abject poverty in 1930s America. Lange’s photographs are supplemented by photographs by other notable social documentarians of the era, including Walker Evans, Ben Shahn, Russell Lee, and Mike Disfarmer.

All works are from the collection of Michael Mattis and Judith Hochberg. This exhibition was organized by art2art Circulating Exhibitions. Reynolda House is grateful for the generous support of the exhibition from Lead Sponsors Claire & Hudnall Christopher and Debbie & Mike Rubin and Exhibition Partners Lynn & Barry Eisenberg, Pam & Fred Kahl, and Phoenix Packaging.

HOW GREETING CARDS WENT TO WAR,
with Annie O'Donnell
Saturday, December 1
2 p.m.
$15 Members/students; $20 not-yet-Members
For the last 100 years, when America has gone to war, so have greeting cards. Their verses and images, how they were advertised, and even the papers and inks all combine to paint a vivid picture of wartime life as it was experienced at Reynolda House, across the United States, and by the troops overseas. Packed with colorful images of vintage cards, this entertaining talk takes us back in time to 1917 and Reynolda's first Christmas, then forward to the Babcock era of World War II, to explore how greeting cards kept families linked and showcased American pride and patriotism.

O'Donnell is an independent scholar and former editor of  Style 1900  magazine .
