GREATER MILWAUKEE ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® SUPPORT PEACEFUL PROTESTS
The summer of 2020 will undoubtedly go down as one of the most troubled in our nation’s history. Not only are we dealing with an unending pandemic, we have witnessed the growing momentum of a social justice movement and Black Lives Matter in the wake of the senseless death of George Floyd in May.

Unfortunately, Southeastern Wisconsin became a flashpoint in the summer’s events last weekend with the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha and Tuesday night’s shooting of three marchers, resulting in two deaths.

We support those who are engaging in peaceful marches for equality, fairness and justice. There is no room in our society for lawless looting and vigilantism by a very few who see peaceful protests as an opportunity to evoke chaos.

The REALTOR® Code of Ethics demand fairness, integrity and honor. As champions of fair housing, equality and inclusion are among our most cherished values. We will continue to educate our members about the importance of upholding these ideals, and advocate for them at the local, state, and national government levels.

We believe REALTORS® are part of the solution going forward, just as we were in the past. Members can be proud that the Associations you belong to, GMAR,WRA and NAR have advocated for fair housing legislation at every level of government.

Celebrating the passage of laws isn’t nearly enough, however. The fairness, integrity and honor embodied in the Code of Ethics needs to be applied every day, by every REALTOR®, every time you answer the phone or send an email.

There are GMAR members in every neighborhood in Greater Milwaukee. As leaders in your communities we welcome your input in how we can continue to promote equality, inclusion, and acceptance. We also invite you to join the GMAR’s Fair Housing Committee to help promote the Code of Ethics, and fairness, integrity and honor.

IT HAS NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT RPAC
Real estate was considered essential because our voice was heard.

What would our business look like today if your lobby team didn’t work diligently behind the scenes to make sure real estate was included on the list of “essential” services?”

On March 24th, 2020, the State of Wisconsin imposed a “Safer At Home Order,” requiring Wisconsin residents to “stay at home or a place of residence” unless they met one of the few exceptions. Many businesses were required to discontinue operations or operate remotely, without meeting in person. Fortunately, real estate services were among the businesses considered to be “essential” and allowed to continue to operate.

This was arguably the single biggest “win” of the year for real estate professionals and the industry as a whole.

We hope we can count on you to keep real estate “essential” in Wisconsin now and in the future. Please consider keeping your RPAC donation on your dues statement.
