MYTH BUSTERS

MYTH:

The SAM.gov Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) is only for Federal prime contractors.

REALITY:

Although Federal prime contractors are required to have a current SAM registration with UEI, many large Federal prime contractors are now requiring that their subcontractors also obtain and keep ACTIVE their SAM.gov UEI .

If you are in need of assistance in obtaining your UEI or updating your SAM.GOV registration, please contact WPI at 414-270-3600 or MichaelS@wispro.org

The U.S. Commerce Department on Thursday launched a website that will provide information about funding opportunities under the $54.2 billion bipartisan CHIPS semiconductor bill President Biden signed into law earlier this month.

The site lists the administration’s implementation priorities that Biden also announced Thursday in an executive order.

ADVANCED NOTIFICATIONS TO SUPPLIERS

On or about September 1, 2022, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) will reactivate robotic process automation (RPA) technology to provide suppliers a monthly advanced notification email for 1 contract awards created in the past 30 days and 2 contract deliveries due in the next 30 days. The email will include Excel attachments with applicable information. The attachments will not be all inclusive and are focused on contract actions supporting on-time delivery metrics. Suppliers are encouraged to review these files to verify awards have been received and shipments are scheduled to meet on-time delivery.

A single notification email will originate from the DLA activity having the majority of awards. See link for sample email.

10 DIGIT PURCHASE REQUISITION NUMBERS

DLA will be changing the current 8-digit Purchase Requisition (PR) number range to a 10-digit number range that will initially start 7000000000. This change will become effective on or during the weekend after September 30th. Suppliers should make any necessary adjustments needed to internal systems to accommodate this change. This will have a minimal impact on many suppliers as 10 digit PR numbers are already in use for many basic long term contracts (these begin with a 1 followed by nine digits).

Pentagon planning new guidance to help contractors squeezed by inflation

The Defense Department is preparing new guidance that would give its contracting officers more flexibility to reimburse vendors whose costs have ballooned because of inflation, updating an earlier policy document that industry groups complained did too little to prevent contractors from bearing the full brunt of higher prices.

The update is in the final review stages and should be published within the next week, said Dr. Bill LaPlante, the undersecretary of Defense for acquisition and sustainment. A key focus would be to offer relief to companies who signed firm fixed-price contracts with the government before inflation took hold.

“If you’re in an FFP contract that was signed in 2020, it’s gotta suck when it’s 2022 with an inflation rate of 10%. That’s what I’m worried about,” he said during a conference hosted by Defense News on Thursday. “We want to keep our industrial base whole, we want to keep them solvent. We need them. That’s what we’re after.”

You know that cybercrime is dangerous – it threatens your business and puts your customers at-risk. These criminals mass produce attacks that reach even the smallest companies, freezing operations and taking your attention away from running your business.

We know you’ve been bombarded by information. People sharing extreme examples of companies losing everything, customers’ private information disappearing, and victims unable to recover.

There are also service providers reaching out to help. Usually, the solutions seem either very complicated, too expensive, or both. The vendors seem more interested in selling you expensive solutions that are too hard to implement, rather than helping you.

All of this makes cybersecurity seem like an issue that big companies can handle with ease, but smaller organizations don’t have a prayer!

That’s about to change!

On September 27th, you can engage with some of the best cybersecurity resources in Wisconsin. These people understand smaller companies and in just a few hours with us, you will:

  • Understand the true threat
  • Come away with several immediate, practical actions that will make your operations more secure
  • Access professional resources to develop a practical plan
