Disasterville Activity.jpg

Disasterville Activity Kit

Disasterville is a table-top activity that was developed in Utah. The Utah team has done several presentations on this activity, including during the 2019 and 2021 CERT Conferences as well as during a national FEMA webinar (click here to see the webinar: Disasterville FEMA webinar). The Utah team has made the Disasterville toolkit available online for programs to create their own kits. During these presentations, many participants have inquired if it was possible to purchase pre-assembled Disasterville Activity Kits. To meet this demand, the National CERT Association has been working with the Utah team to explore the idea of preassembling the kits for CERT programs to purchase. A limited number of kits will be made available for purchase

during the 2022 National CERT conference. To help the NCA gauge the demand

for these kits, please complete this short survey if you are interested: Disasterville Kit

Interest Survey.

Please complete the survey by February 18, 2022.

American Sign Language Basics for CERT Webinar

Wednesday, February 2, 2022

As part of the ongoing partnership between Cal OES, FEMA Region II, and the National CERT Association to hold CERT related webinars, the American Sign Language Basics for CERT webinar will be held on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm eastern, 10am to 12pm pacific. Training will be delivered by AQI Interpreting Services. This training is going to focus on the communication needs for including Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants in your CERT program. Typically, a person with a hearing loss and uses sign

language as their primary mode of communication requires accommodations to

fully understand presentations spoken in English. American Sign Language

(ASL) and English are not the same. ASL has its own grammar and syntax with just as much richness and nuance as any other language. The instructors will bring a perspective of being Deaf, a sign language interpreter and a person with a mild to moderate hearing loss and learning sign language. Please join us as you learn techniques to enhance your curriculum to include Deaf and Hard of Hearing community members to your class. You will also learn a few survival signs used for Emergency management situations such as hurt, pain, where, water, name, and many more!
