The City started September with the Long Beach City Council adopting the $2.8 billion budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2020, a budget that is committed to continuing to improve the quality of life in Long Beach. It will in invest in reducing homelessness, public safety resources, infrastructure improvements, economic development, arts & culture and more.

Long Beach City Council Adopted Fiscal Year 2020 Budget
On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Long Beach City Council voted to adopt the City of Long Beach’s balanced, $2.8 billion budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2020. Included in the adopted budget are investments in reducing homelessness, public safety resources, infrastructure improvements, economic development, arts & culture and more.

Billie Jean King to Appear at Long Beach Library Named in Her Honor
|
On Saturday, September 21, the City of Long Beach will celebrate the grand opening of the new Billie Jean King Main Library. The event, which is open to the public, will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the official program starting at approximately 10:15 a.m. The celebration will take place on Broadway between Pacific Avenue and Cedar Avenue.

Mayor Robert Garcia Appoints Diana Tang Chief of Staff
|
Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia selected Diana Tang as his next Chief of Staff following an announcement from Mark Taylor, his current Chief of Staff, stating he will be pursing a new opportunity in the private sector. Diana is currently the Manager of Government Affairs and Communications for the City of Long Beach where she helps manage the City Communications Office, the Government Affairs Team and city lobbyists in Sacramento and Washington D.C.
Her appointment as Chief of Staff is effective September 30, 2019.

Census Job Opportunities for City of Long Beach Residents
Pacific Gateway has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to provide resources and support to help Long Beach residents apply for U.S. Census jobs. Pacific Gateway will help residents interested in applying, with guidance through the application process. The Long Beach Complete Count Committee hosted their second meeting at the Pacific Gateway office on Friday, August 30th to highlight this partnership that is aimed to encourage residents to get involved in ensuring their communities are counted.

City Meets with Community Members and Cross-Sector Partners to Develop a Digital Inclusion Roadmap
On Thursday, August 29, the Technology and Innovation Department in collaboration with the Economic Development Department, launched the Digital Inclusion Roadmap development process with community ambassadors and cross-sector partners.
The Digital Inclusion Roadmap will be a blueprint to ensure everyone in Long Beach has equitable access and use of digital literacy training, Internet services, technology devices and other digital inclusion resources.

Community Invited to Participate in California Coastal Cleanup Day
The community is encouraged to make a positive impact on local marine life by volunteering at California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. This annual event draws more than 65,000 volunteers statewide in a joint effort to clean up waterways and coastlines.
