A MESSAGE FROM LONG BEACH
POLICE DEPARTMENT
REGARDING INAUGURATION DAY

In response to recent national and regional events, the Long Beach Police Department is currently planning and preparing for the upcoming Presidential Inauguration Ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021. The violence and destruction that occurred as protestors stormed our nation's Capital were appalling and deeply disturbing. We maintain a strong communications network with our federal, state, and regional law enforcement partners. We have received updated information on the U.S. Capitol incident that will allow us to sufficiently prepare for any future unrest.

At this time, there are no known credible threats of violence to any government facility or any planned protest activities scheduled in our City on or around Inauguration Day. However, the department is aware of unconfirmed reports being shared by media outlets of possible protests targeting courthouses and other government facilities. Updates from the department will be issued through our below listed social media channels. Please also beware of unconfirmed misinformation that may be shared through social media platforms.

As part of our ongoing emergency response planning, we have been reaching out to all government facilities and businesses within our City to share information and encourage them to have safety plans in place. As a community member, we encourage you to do the same.

We will be increasing staffing during the inauguration week to provide a visible deterrent to violence and to provide necessary facility checks throughout that time. We continue to promote the “See Something, Say Something” philosophy and ask all community members to remain vigilant and notify us of any suspicious or criminal activity.

We assure you that the Police Department is fully committed to safeguarding our community and policing in an objective, apolitical, and constitutional manner. We fully support everyone’s 1st Amendment right to participate in protest activity but will not tolerate violence or property destruction.

We encourage you to please follow our social media channels to receive critical updates and be aware of our department operations.
