Welcome to our LBPD Newsletter!
Last month, we released our 2020 year-end crime statistics. Our Long Beach community faced many challenges in 2020, yet our mission to provide public safety remains a top priority.

“We remain committed to serving our community, reducing crime, and continuing to build partnerships through public safety. As we move forward, we will continue our focus on building on our community partnerships, improving data-driven crime impact, and will also continue to look at new technology like our incoming records management system, which will allow us to better identify and impact crime trends.”

The City has experienced an unprecedented increase of approximately 120% in hit shootings since the beginning of the year and to mitigate this increase, the Police Department has formed a coordinated response team (CRT) comprised of supervisors, detectives, officers, and a crime analyst, with the sole purpose of coordinating our response to reduce overall violent crime city-wide. These efforts began on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, and will continue for the foreseeable future. The priorities for this new team are:
- Coordinate the Department's resources towards violent crimes with an emphasis on gun-related crimes and the seizure of “ghost guns.”
- Discuss strategies and communicating current crime trends and intelligence to the Department and possibly other city partners as we move forward.
- Identify what is driving the increases in violence within each of our patrol divisions.
- Promote community engagement and education.
In just the first week of the operation, the CRT has made eight arrests, seized six firearms, including a "ghost gun," and has served three search warrants.

This arrest was a result of a traffic stop, leading our officers to the discovery and seizure of a large quantity of meth being transported in the vehicle. Great proactive work by our North patrol division officers to take dangerous drugs off our streets!

Virtual Badge Ceremony for our Senior Police Partners
While we were unable to celebrate in person, we were pleased to present our new five Senior Police Partners (SPP) with their badges in a virtual ceremony in January. Our SPPs volunteer their time to help seniors in the community and to participate in a variety of proactive crime-prevention activities. We appreciate them so much. Congratulations!
