Welcome to our LBPD Newsletter!
As we close out 2019, the end of a decade, I want to reflect on the many different opportunities and successes we've had as a department. Preeminent, is the on-going support we receive from you, our community. The refreshing and warm encounters our Department employees often receive is a true testament that our community at-large values the work we do every day.

This year alone, our officers have had over
605,000
interactions with the public and have responded to an average of
565
calls for service daily.
Response time for Priority 1 calls for service average
4.3
minutes; one of the fastest for a large U.S. City.
By the end of the third quarter, our Quality of Life and Mental Health Teams made over
900
contacts with individuals experiencing homelessness, resulting in temporary housing for
177
and permanent housing for
25
.
The Police Department funded over
38
public safety operations and event action plans through the Neighborhood Safe Streets Program. These funds supported collision reduction, school traffic safety, property crime suppression, homeless outreach, fireworks enforcement and prohibited firearm operations.
This year, we also began working on a partnership with Trauma Intervention Programs, Inc. (TIP) to help us provide crisis support services to community members impacted by traumatic events.

Deployment of body worn cameras continues and will be extended to all four geographic patrol divisions including field support operations in early 2020. This deployment is another step toward increased transparency and the safety of both residents and officers alike.
We launched the Senate Bill 1421 (SB 1421) and Assembly Bill 748 (AB 748) website that mandates the public disclosure of records and the production of video and audio of critical incidents. The department will continue to release documents through the
Public Records Act
request portal and by publishing them on the website as they become available.

|
Lastly,
50
officers graduated from Police Academy #93 this year and we will continue with our recruitment efforts into 2020.
On behalf of the men and women of the Long Beach Police Department we want to wish you a safe and prosperous New Year!

LBPD once again teamed up with Long Beach Fire Department to collect and deliver toys to families throughout Long Beach during our annual Toy Patrol. Toys were collected during the month of December at various donation locations and were distributed during the holiday season. This year, over 700 boys and girls received toys to brighten their holiday season.
A BIG thank you to all of our volunteers for their continued efforts and community partners who donated toys to help make this event a huge success!
