FEBRUARY 2020
Need some motivation to get your bike out these chilly winter months? Friday, February 14 , is International Winter Bike to Work Day, so let's battle the elements together. Whether your main ride is a bike, scooter, board, skates, or just your own two feet, thank you for Going Active, LB! Now, here's a roundup of our latest news and features.
Safe Streets Long Beach
The Safe Streets Long Beach initiative aims to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by 2026. We listened to community members, and the City has put together the Safe Streets LB Action Plan, which will be released in the coming months. The data doesn't lie, so check out the Safe Streets LB page to find out more about the collision analysis, resident feedback, and recommended keystone actions.
Make Your Ride Count
Have you seen our eco-counter while strolling the downtown? Due to the popularity of our Belmont Bike Path eco-counter launched in 2016, we installed a second counter on the corner of Broadway at the Promenade. These sensors count bicyclists and pedestrians passing by using inductive loops and infrared technology. So, be sure to ride or walk by to get yourself counted, then check real-time counts and analytics via the counter's very own data portal!

Walk to School Week
Want that extra time with your little ones in the morning? Long Beach's Walk to School Week will be March 23 through March 27, 2020, and is being organized by LBUSD and the City's Health and Human Services Department. Throughout the week, schools are encouraged to get involved by participating in fun activities that promote walking, pedestrian safety, and encourage students and families to leave their cars at home and walk to school. Take advantage of this event and get your steps in!
GoActiveLB Hub
We have a new look; Bikestation is now the GoActiveLB Hub! The rebranded and upgraded hub still has the excellent bike services that help keep Long Beach a bike-friendly city. Bicyclists have access to secure indoor bike storage, bike rentals, repairs, bike registration, retail sales, maps, and in-person guidance to connect to other modes of transportation. The GoActiveLB Hub is located on 1st Street and Promenade in the Downtown Transit Mall. Don't miss out on the new classes and workshops that will be offered at the hub. We will be posting the schedule to our website in the coming months.
Mobility Toolkit
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a bicycle boulevard and bicycle path? Check out GoActiveLB's Online Mobility Toolkit to become an expert on all of Long Beach's different street, sidewalk and traffic calming features. We promise there isn't a quiz attached.
