FATHERHOOD CORNER

Happy Holidays from the Fundamentals of Fatherhood Program!

The Fundamentals of Fatherhood program’s goals are to strengthen families by improving the father-child relationship, improve co-parenting, and provide the resources, linkages and economic development opportunities for the families that we serve. It is with great joy that we share their success with you. The last month has been very exciting as we finish our first Fundamentals of Fatherhood Nurturing Fathers Curriculum (FFP) cohorts for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

As of December 10th, 2021, 10 fathers graduated and 14 fathers are scheduled to graduate by January 2022. Furthermore, we started a Spanish cohort and are open for enrollment for both English and Spanish FFP cohorts. For every father that we work with, we are touching and strengthening this and future generations.

We have also been successful at helping fathers and families become more financially stable by providing education and employment services. Through our employment services, fathers, as well as their children ages 18-24 years and significant others can connect to programs to get their GED, participate in job training, or get help finding a job. Recently, one of the fathers in our program got his first job, and another started working at a local food bank after working with our Career Coach, Anthony Martinez, from Goodwill SOLAC, and Ryan Sheldon from Pacific Gateway. Two more fathers also got new or better jobs and training that will help them with employment and career advancement, including one who got a $3 dollar an hour raise after completing forklift certification. Please see the attached photos courtesy of Ryan Sheldon at Pacific Gateway.

Congratulations to all the fathers in our program and thank you to our partners; as a team, we share our success with you and are proud of the significant strides that we make to improve the wellness of fathers and their families.

If you are a father or father figure in Long Beach, the South Bay, or SPA 8, we invite you to be part of our program. If you are a school, church, or other community services provider we invite you to share our information with the community and refer father. For more information, please visit our website at www.longbeach.gov/fatherhood or call 562-570-3285

Best Wishes and Kind Regards,

The Fundamentals of Fatherhood Program.
