Weekly News from Grace Episcopal Church

Published May 28, 2026

Dear Friends,

We have been in a whirlwind of Feast Days these last two weeks and that continues into this Sunday. We have moved from the Ascension to Pentecost and now this Sunday, Trinity Sunday.

Liturgically (the things we all do together on Sundays in the Eucharist) there will be some return to pre-Lent practices. We will re-introduce the rubric/direction to kneel as we are able during the prayers of the people. Following the prayers we will continue to kneel as we transition to the confession. You may remember in Lent the confession was at the very beginning of the service – an esteem of its centrality in the season. And during the Easter season we did not include the confession – a tangible reminder of the celebration we were holding. This Sunday, we are back with the confession in the place we usually placed in the service. An addition to these familiar practices, a change we are making is the introduction of the rubric to stand for the post-communion prayer. This is a part of the service following absolution (forgiveness proclaimed) and celebrating the Eucharist as we are getting ready to go out the doors revitalized to engage the world for the sake of the Kingdom of God.

Another aspect of our worship services you may notice are the colors used for the frontal of the altar and those on the lectern and pulpit. For Lent the color was purple, symbolizing repentance. The Great 50 Days of Easter we were using white, symbolizing celebration (also used for weddings and funerals). The Day of Pentecost was red tying to the tongues of fire, but more generally red is used at services marking self-offering/self-sacrifice. It is used for the Maundy Thursday, the martyrs, clergy ordinations, etc. This Sunday for Trinity Sunday the color is white for celebration.

With all the focus on what God has done in power and love, and the reality of union with God through the Holy Spirit in our lives, it is a wonderful time to consider both our approach to relationship with God and our participation in the building up of the Kingdom – If gospel is good news, what is the bad news we can take the good news to?

May we be envisioned in our relationship with God, and both stirred and empowered to advance the kingdom.

Peace,

Lisa+
