The Days Are Getting Shorter.  But There Is Still Plenty Of Time to Fish.
September was quite a month here in Colorado - first and foremost, our condolences go out to any friends, family, clients, or businesses who were impacted by the rain events last month.  Our hope is for a speedy recovery for all.

With the big "500 year" flood now behind us, we're happy to see most of the rivers in Colorado settling back down.  And more importantly, it is great to see and hear that the fall fly fishing is starting to really pick up as well.

I know that fishing close to home is something that is near-and-dear to most of our readers.  I'm happy to report that our home waters - the South Platte River - is still fishing really, really well. I hope you enjoy our report and forecast for the Deckers area and also Cheesman Canyon (one of my local favorites).

In addition, we have a tremendous line up this fall for both fishing opportunities as well as customer events.  Trouts is proud to announce that we will be hosting this year's Denver premiere of Confluence Film's WAYPOINTS on November 8th (this is a One-Night-Only Event for the ENTIRE country).  In usual Trouts style, we're going to be throwing a VIP Party that you do not want to miss and that I'd like to personally invite you to attend.

We're also extending our On-Stream Beginner Fly Fishing School into October based on all of the interest new anglers have shown.  Our last class will be held on October 20th  If you're interested in a more intermediate to advanced class, don't miss an opportunity to fish the Lower Blue River by attending our Switch and Spey Casting Clinic on the legendary Lower Blue River.

As always, Trouts has new products hitting our shelves - and in this case, the roof of my truck.  Don't miss our Product Spotlights for October.

If you ever have any questions or need advice do not hesitate to give us a call - we're here to help you make the most of the time you get to spend on the water.

Cheers,

Colorado Just Had A Historic Rain Event.
Check Out Our Most Recent:
Fall fly fishing has finally arrived in Colorado!  With the recent rain event behind us, it is great to see a more regular weather pattern developing here in the Front Range.

The flows on the main stem of the South Platte River were all over the place in September - yet the river fished extremely well.  Flows were as low as 50 and as high as 300+ and the river has settled down to 154 out of Cheesman Reservoir through the Deckers area.

"I was able to fish the Deckers area of the South Platte River almost every day when the big storm hit in September," said Dave Lovell, Head Guide at Trouts Guide Service.  "We were wet - but the water actually dropped and the river fished really well.  And... we had the river to ourselves."

Higher up the river system, fishing has been excellent as well.

"My last day fishing Cheesman Canyon this season was phenomenal," said Tucker Ladd after a recent trip.  "I had good success fishing a dry dropper rig for most of the morning, and then switched over to an unweighted nymph rig in the afternoon.  The flows were right around 295 cfs, which is still a fairly ideal flow for wade fishing."

We hope you enjoy this Feature Fall update!

RINGING IN THE 'DIRTY THIRTY'
A Fly Fishing Report and Photo Essay From Louisiana - By Tucker Ladd

"Let's face it, turning 30 isn't exactly a milestone we are all looking forward to hitting.  But I've always been a firm believer that it's all is how you want to view it, so are you a "glass is half full" or "glass is half empty" kind of person?  Luckily I've already been down said path, and thanks to my wife my 30th birthday will be one to remember (and not remember thanks to plentiful brown water libations).  So it's fair to say that the bar was set pretty high, and I knew I had my work cut out for me to produce a birthday bash that would make my wife's first days in her dirty flirty 30's something to remember.  To my luck she had three "musts"; 1) good food 2) good booze 3) good fishing.

QUINTANA ROO, Mexico - The year: 1982.  The month: March.  The day: Thursday, the 25th.

Over a year had passed and he still had not caught a permit.  What had started out a mild curiosity had blossomed into a distant fascination.  Permit were a magnetic enigma - their behavior vexing and alluring all at the same time.  From there, things morphed into what Isaha, his closest associate and now fishing partner, called an unhealthy obsession....
