Utility installation and road reconstruction started on April 25, 2018 and will restrict traffic to one-way (westbound) in Stage 4 of the South Railway Street rehabilitation project from Allowance Avenue overpass to the 8th Avenue SE intersection. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via 8th Avenue SE and 9th Street SE back onto South Railway Street. The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) released a statement on the rising trade tensions caused by proposed tit-for-tat tariffs. ICC Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said "Open markets underpinned by the rules-based multilateral trading system have been a vital driver of prosperity across the world over the past 50 years. Any erosion of that system will come at quite a cost to us all. Tariff hikes will inevitably impact small businesses that often rely heavily on imported goods and services." Read more
The Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) released a statement regarding the proposed amendments to Alberta's Lobbyists Act and how it could negatively impact constituency engagement. Reduction of the lobbying time threshold from 100 to 50 hours dramatically changes the reporting requirements for many community-serving organizations. This leads to increased administrative burdens on organization that have limited staff resources, including chambers.  Read More

The Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp and Community Futures are partnering with Rotary District 5360 to become Rotary Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp (AYEC). AYEC is a week-long camp for youth ages 13 - 15 who are interested in learning about business and entrepreneurship. The main focus of this camp is to educate youth about marketing, advertising, preparing a cash-flow statement and writing a business plan. This month, the business federations of the G7 nations met for the 2018 B7 Business Summit, which was hosted by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) in Quebec City. The Summit is the premier event for business representatives from G7 member countries to gather and discuss key issues facing the global economy, including growth, trade, innovation and productivity. The declaration from the B7 outlines specific strategies to mold the global economy towards a more inclusive and prosperous future, despite the many challenges the countries of the G7 are currently facing. This is a great tool for members that do not have a website as it acts as a "micro-website" and it can also direct traffic to the business website- if you do have one.  Members can also post job postings, events, RFP's and Hot Deals for FREE.
