The Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce has been advocating for options for air travel for travelers in Southeast Alberta and Southwest Saskatchewan since 2012 with our policy Medicine Hat Air Service. This past Friday, June 22nd, we were pleased to be on hand for the inaugural flight of WestJet Link out of the Medicine Hat Airport. Through collaboration with the City of Medicine Hat we are pleased that our efforts to connect our community to better service, influence by partnering with our municipal govenment and support our business community with greater options has resulted in a win for Medicine Hat and district. 



The City of Medicine Hat sent out Assessment Request for Information (ARFI) forms to non-residential property owners, which much be submitted by July 3, 2018. Pursuant to Provincial Legislation, the July 1, 2018, market value of property will form the basis of the 2019 tax year assessment and all properties must be reassessed annually. Your assessment value is one of the factors used to calculate your property tax amount. The other factor is the tax rate (mill rate) which is set each year by our municipal council. Current information supplied by property owners assists in obtaining more accurate data and to help reach a fair and equitable assessment. Read more
 
Community Futures Entre-Corp in Medicine Hat is celebrating 30 years of business. During this time we have helped more than 1,200 small businesses get started in Southeast Alberta by helping entrepreneurs access approximately $32 million in loans, leveraging another $28 million, creating or maintaining another 3,452 jobs in the region. We have helped train thousands more through our training and seminar programs offered in the region. We have been delivering business services to start-ups and expanding businesses in our region since 1988. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) welcomes this next step in the ratification of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). This agreement represents a major opportunity for Canadian businesses to gain greater access to the fast growing Asia-Pacific region. Hon. Perrin Beatty, President and CEO of the CCC issued the following statement regarding the tabling of a bill to implement the CPTPP. 
"The Canadian Chamber of Commerce welcomes this next step in the ratification process of the CPTPP. This agreement represents a major opportunity for Canadian businesses to gain greater access to the fast growing Asia-Pacific region." Read more
 
The work has been completed from northwest of 7 Street SE to the 8th Avenue intersection on South Railway Street. The contractor is scheduled to pave the bottom lift asphalt in Stage 4 from northwest of 7 Street SE to 8th Avenue/6th Street Intersection. The last phase of construction from 8th Avenue/6th Street intersection to Kingsway Avenue intersection will begin the following week and is scheduled to be completed by end of August 2018.  Read more
 
 
City of Medicine Hat Utilities Distribution Systems - Gas has completed utility infrastructure construction on First Street SW and the street has now re-opened to traffic. Portions of the roadway are paved, however, due to prior obligations of the paving crew, the entire length of the roadway has not been completed. It is expected that paving crews will return in a week to two weeks to complete the remainder of the paving. Signs indicating speeds of 30 km/hr in both directions have been placed along First Street to advise motorists to reduce speeds due to both the condition of the road as well as the amount of dust kicked up by passing motorists. The Rite Downtown Farmer's Market is an all-day, every day farmers market with a larger market held every Friday throughout the summer. Join us while we create something special in Downtown and work to enhance our community's access to locally grown, healthy food. 10,000 people live within walking distance of Downtown Medicine Hat and our goal is to give people who work and live Downtown a place to shop and eat during and after work. In addition to the Farmer's Market, attendees will enjoy live music and other entertainment in one of Downtown's most beautiful locations. Farmers Market gates open July 3rd with the first Friday Farmer's Market launching July 6th.
 
Alberta Labour provided $2,444,937 in grant funding to 57 projects. OHS Futures Grants provides research funding to 13 projects to enhance OHS knowledge and capacity. Supporting 44 projects, OHS Innovation and Engagement Grants (I&E) aim to increase OHS awareness, knowledge, and action across various industry sectors.
