Albertans can now have a say on new rules for workplace harassment and violence and joint work site health and safety committees. The new Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act takes steps to protect workers from harassment and violence in all forms. It also requires a joint work site health and safety committees or a worker health and safety representative, depending on workforce size. The input will help shape specific rules around these new requirements to ensure the legislation is fair and balanced. Read More

Controlled environment agriculture raised over $10 billion in 2017, representing nearly a 30 per cent increase over 2016. Within that, investment into novel farming systems rose 200 per cent as companies got serious about how to grow as much food as efficiently as possible. Novel farming systems includes what are essentially greenhouses, growing systems and the technology that increases growing efficiency. Investments are highlighted by Silicon-valley startup Plenty, which raised a record setting $200 million with its plan to erect greenhouses next to China's largest cities. Read More
On March 10, 2018, in honour of International Women's Day, the  Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society (MHWSS) in partnership with  CF Industries and  The Smith Group Business & Estate Planning proudly hosted the Annual Bread & Roses Gala for the 6th year in a row. The popular event sold out in mid January and is the largest fundraiser for the MHWSS raising over $139,000 for the organization this year and over $300,000 since the first event on March 8, 2013. All proceeds from the evening help support the shelter's programs and services for individuals and families who have experienced family violence.  "We are thrilled that this event experiences so much community support each year", said Natasha Carvalho, Executive Director with the MHWSS.
