The Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce, along with the Alberta Chambers of Commerce and Canadian Chamber of Commerce, have all provided their initial comments on the 2018 Federal budget announced on February 27, 2018.  Chambers of Commerce at local, provincial and federal levels all agree that the budget tabled yesterday in the House of Commons, called "Equality + Growth", is concerning for business. It was a budget big on spending, but not on growth, with a lot of the fiscal projections based on economic assumptions that may be more favorable than actual outcomes are believed to achieve. Dr. Andrea Storch of  Cypress View Veterinary Clinic in Medicine Hat, Alberta received the Young Veterinarian of the Year Awards on February 24th, 2018 a the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association Leadership Weekend in Edmonton, Alberta. "This award is presented to a new Alberta Veterinary Association member who has shown enthusiasm for veterinary medicine and demonstrated leadership in the profession, particularly the ABVMA. This award is normally presented to a veterinarian who as graduated within the last five years." Dr Storch was nominated out of a possible 567 candidates and then chosen as the recipient by the council of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association. Read More
Call for Board of Director Nominations Announced
Today, the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce announced its call for nominations for its Board of Directors, with nominations being accepted from Thursday, March 1st to 
Friday, March 30, 2018.  Each spring the Chamber of Commerce holds an election to fill expiring or vacant positions on the Board of Directors, which is comprised of 12 member representatives. Directors serve a two-year election term which begins September 1st of their elected year. Nominees must be candidates, either as a business owner or employee, from companies who have been in good standing with the Chamber of Commerce for a minimum of two years. Read More

The Downtown Development Incentive Program (DDIP) is set to return for 2018. The Business Support Office will begin taking applications on Monday, March 19 at 9 a.m. The DDIP continues to offer downtown property owners a series of incentive to assist them to redevelop or initiate new developments in the city centre and includes five options for financial assistance. NAFTA negotiations have opened for a seventh round in Mexico City and will continue until March 5, 2018. Talks are being complicated with the added pressure of political deadlines looming starting with Mexican federal elections set to begin in late March, U.S. mid term elections later this year and the Canadian federal election slated for 2019. Alberta Agriculture and Forestry has developed a short online survey for input on the program concepts for the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) set to begin in April 2018 after Growing Forward 2 (GF2) expires in March 2018. This survey offers agriculture stakeholders the opportunity to make suggestions on the proposed CAP program concepts. Input provided will equip Alberta Agriculture and Forestry to provide programming that meets the needs and priorities of Alberta's industry.  Read More
Industrial-specific rebates have been added to Energy Efficiency Alberta's Business Non-Profit and Institutional (BNI) Energy Savings Program. The program helps organizations reduce their energy use and green house gas emissions by replacing outdated and inefficient equipment with new energy-efficient technologies. Most industrial facilities that are not large final emitters qualify for the program.  Read More
