Dear Lycée Families and Friends,

It was a lot of fun spending time with all of you at the Nuit de la Musique. I would like to thank you for coming to support the event, which, in turn, supports the work of our teachers and students. Hats off to all who assisted with the organization. We hope to see you at the Lycée Mardi Gras Parade and/or celebrations for another opportunity to build and strengthen our community by sharing special moments with our students.

Black History Month Celebrations
Throughout the month of February, our students have celebrated Black History month by working on class research projects, oratorical contests and field trips on Hidden African American Figures and Black Resilience in New Orleans and a culminating performance from the Louis Armstrong Foundation.
Krewe du Lycée
This year’s Krewe Du Lycee will roll on February 27th . Each class will be working on a class/grade level theme. Room parents will be contacting class parents for assistance with class costumes.

We understand that not all families celebrate Mardi Gras. Engaging, enjoyable activities will be provided for students opting out of Mardi Gras activities. Please notify your child(ren)'s teacher(s) if your child(ren) will not participate.
Parade Route
The students will start on Patton, turn left on Eleonore, left on Constance, left on State and return to Patton. The parade will begin promptly at 1:30 PM and is expected to be over at 2:15 PM .
King Cake
The kids will enjoy their King Cakes BEFORE the parade to make pick up AFTER the parade run more smoothly. If you are donating a King Cake to the class you must bring it in, LABELED with your child's teacher's name on Wednesday, February 27th at School AM Drop Off. Staff members will grab the cakes from you during the AM Drop Off.
Grandparent Celebration
As is tradition, we will celebrate our grandparents before the parade at the St. Paul's Fellowship Hall (600 Eleonore Street), right next door to the Patton campus. Grandparents are invited to arrive at 1:00 PM , eat a slice of King Cake, have a glass of sparkling wine, and then watch the parade at 1:30 PM . We kindly ask that grandparents arrive at 1:00 PM and not much earlier as we need the morning to make preparations.
Pick Up Procedures
At the conclusion of the parade all classes will return to their classrooms to pack and get ready for dismissal. After about 10 minutes parents will be allowed to enter the building and go directly to classrooms to pick their children up. Every parent must sign his or her child out on forms provided by teachers. Once the parent signs the child out, the teacher must place a stamp on the hand of the child to indicate that the child has been properly checked out. Staff members will be posted at the exits to make certain all students have been properly checked out prior to leaving the building.
No After Care - Wed. February 27
There will be no After Care or any Extended Day Program services (Enrichment, Homework Centers, etc) on Wednesday, February 27th. Late pick-up fees will apply after 3:20pm.

Black History Month
This year the Johnson Campus will be celebrating Black History Month with the theme of "Contemporary Changemakers in New Orleans; Local Black Heroes". Students will learn about some important historical figures and will also interact with and learn about some of the many current Black leaders in our community - both those in official roles and those who are grassroots heroes working to improve the city in a variety of fields.

On February 19th the middle school students will engage with Local Black Heroes with a day of field trips and speakers and/or workshops. They will then take what they have learned and develop presentations for the 3rd-5th grade classes to make this an enrichment experience for the whole campus to learn about Black changemakers in their community.
