Dear Lycée Community,
As we get ready to take a pause from school business and enjoy a restful Fall Break, I’d like to reflect on these first few weeks of the school year and offer some updates. It has been a pleasure to work with two highly qualified, forward looking and visionary principals who so expertly manage and bring improvement to each of our campuses. As you know, they are supported by our knowledgeable staff who are committed and passionate about your children's education. Student safety has been on the forefront of our initiatives, and we made great progress on this end. After a rocky beginning, our transportation department is walking on much more solid grounds. Thank you to all those – staff and parents – who, with constructive and specific feedback, contributed to progress.

Students are learning and engaged daily. Our teachers – our superheroes - have settled into their routines and a great degree of professional development has been offered and planned in order to maximize achievement and outcomes. Our TOC experiences are in full swing, bringing extra excitement and unforgettable learning opportunities. We just received a $15,000 transportation grant from NPS for the French Quarter TOC program, another testament of the truly amazing commitment of all our partners to your children’s education. How lucky we are!!! Speaking of grants and luck, after receiving a $20,000 grant for the improvement of our math program, we began our work with The New Teacher Project on math coaching and curriculum. We are truly excited about this newly developed partnership.

I hope you will join us for the first high school  portes ouvertes,  open house, on November 13 th , and stay tuned for a pre-meeting (Lycée parents only) when we will discuss these plans (date will be communicated after Fall Break). Our high school development work has made steady progress, including outreach. We met with the Directors of Audubon Charter School, Ecole Bilingue, and International School of Louisiana who are all very supportive of and excited about our 9th-12th program.

The work on facilities has also been in constant development. A great thank you to our Board and Facilities Committee members for their work and continuous commitment to progress. We are in the process of amending some elements of the current architectural design to meet specific requirements. This is needed in order to obtain historic tax credit that fund a portion of the renovation project of the Priestley site. Our foundation has also been active in their work in support of our school. A great  merci  to our Amis du Lycée Board. We have submitted, are in the process of submitting or have identified a number of major grants to support our growth and we will keep you updated as we know more.

We look forward to working together so we can continue to build one of the best schools in a truly fantastic city, and to give our deserving students the best a school can offer.

Thank you, dear Lycée families, for your continued support. I hope to see you at the Fall Picnic, organized by our amazing PTO Board, tomorrow, 6pm to 8pm at the Patton Campus.
We wish all of you a great and safe Fall Break.

A Message from our Patton principal
The school year is underway, and we are off to a great start! Our staff is consistently committed to providing a challenging immersion program for all students within a safe, nurturing environment, which will enable our students to function as productive, ethical and responsible global citizens. When I think of the Lycee staff, I am reminded of the words of Rita Pierson, “Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who will understand the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.” We are the CHAMPIONS of each child on the Patton campus.

Tutoring Policy
LFNO does not sponsor or sanction employees performing any outside services for student families such as babysitting and/or tutoring. Any such activities are considered completely separate and aside from any LFNO affiliation and LFNO bears no liability in any circumstance. Thus, no LFNO communication tools or classroom/school space can be utilized to coordinate or execute such outside services and activities. Aftercare and homework center are exempt from this policy as they are school sponsored and supervised activities.

This policy was created after consultation with LFNO attorneys and insurance agents and is the product of a rapidly growing organization. We apologize if this creates any undue complications for families as we are already a month into the school year. We have asked teachers to quickly adapt any private work they may have set up with parents. If teachers coordinate such private services moving forward it just must be done without the knowledge or involvement of the organization.

Thank you to all families for your flexibility and understanding about the new policy that doesn’t allow for private tutoring on campus. LFNO has heard the concerns from teachers and families regarding the need for more after school academic support and we are working to developing more robust in-house support in conjunction with the LFNO Enrichment Program. More information to come soon!

School Lunch (Resto!) Billing
ALL PARENTS: As a reminder, in the 2017-2018 school year, the student accounts were split by campus. This required a one-time action on your parent to see your correct account balance. Please follow the attached procedure to delete and re-add your student if you did not do so last year in order to have your student's balance correctly reflected, regardless of your student's grade level. If you have not yet set up your My School Bucks account to view and pay your balance online, please see attached for general instructions on setting up your account as well as the attached FAQs for general lunch billing questions.

3RD GRADE PARENTS: The attached My School Bucks procedure outlines actions that must be taken each year by all parents of new 3rd grade students in order for their lunch balances to be reflected correctly in My School Bucks because of the move from Lycee Lower Campus (Patton) to Lycee Upper Campus (Johnson).
QUESTIONS? Regarding school lunch bills, please contact our bookkeeper, Anne, at achapman@lfno.org and our Healthy School Food Collaborative representative, Van, at van.cao@thsfc.com for assistance. Please note that the e-mail address, restolycee@lfno.org , is no longer used and will be deactivated as of today, October 4, 2018 .
